This is my concern-- it's great not having to throw Petty right in to the fray, but you look at QBs who have a lot of success in this league, and they're guys who are in the same system basically from day 1 (Manning, Favre, Brady, etc.). Chan is 63. We're in great shape if he pulls a Dick LeBeau and coaches until he's 147. On the other hand, that isn't REALLY that old for an NFL coach....Wade Phillips is 68, and nobody thinks he's retiring next year, right? I don't know, Marty Schottenhiemer seemed ancient to me, and he was only 63 the last year he coached the Chargers. I guess it's a toss up-- totally dependent on the individual, their physical well being, and their team's performance on the field. And how greedy they are.

Never in a million years after being 5-5 would I think that then over the next 5 games we'd go 5-0 with fitz throwing the ball an average of 40 times a game.
One thing I really like abouy Gailey (and this was much more prevalent on Sunday against the Pats) is his playcalling from the Shotgun. Shotgun handoffs, which then sets up Shotgun playaction. This creates a lot of problems for the D in terms of predicting the Offense's plays. When Peyton Manning was on Indy, they used to run a stretch handoff that was very deliberate. And when they were passing out of that formation/package, they would playaction the stretch handoff. It became very difficult throughout the game to guess if the play would be run or pass. I remember getting so annoyed because it was such a simple, effective strategy. I want to see more of that Shotgun versatility from Gailey. When the Defense can't consistently predict what Offensive play is coming - run or pass - then the Offense is truly balanced.
Let's remember that Gailey was out of work when we hired him. He hadn't coached since 2012. Things can change quickly but I doubt he came back just to coach a couple of years.
Yes, Kevin Pautllo is that guy, he's currently our QB coach. He coached with Gailey in Buffalo and KC. I think this is his first year as a QB coach.
I didn't like the hire and he had some awful games, but for the first time in a very long time Chan has given us an OC that gets what being a OC in his day and age means. He has let his QB throw the ball and let his wr's be receivers, instead of glorified blockers. I can't wait to see this offense next year with hopefully Amaro and Smith doing something.
The Pats game was one of the best offensively coordinated games by a Jet OC in recent memory. The game plan was absolutely stellar, and if not for Fitz being a bit off in the first half, the Jets could have won going away. Gotta love the empty backfield formation on 3rd and long. This set is ideal when you have a guy like Fitz who has the balls to take off and run when the pocket collapses. Chan has done an impeccable job of recognizing players' skills and tailoring the game plan to their strengths. Probs to the Jets scouting staff as well for being an integral part of the Jets' offensive resurrection.
