I'm looking for a bit of local knowledge please. My two sons-in-law and I are travelling from London, England to a regular season home game next season. We came a couple of years ago to a 3-20 loss to Miami and saw the sites etc. It was great but as it was a surprise present for my birthday we didn't really plan anything other than the Jets game. This time I want to fit in a few more sporting events straddling a Fri - Mon period so I'm looking for suggestions. The Mets are near to where we are staying (Bayside, Queens) but one of the boys wishes to visit Yankee Stadium so we'll try to fit in both if we can. I'd like to catch a college football game if at all possible (was thinking maybe Rutgers). The way the respective seasons overlap it's looking like September is favorite. Are The Rangers in pre-season for Hockey maybe? I understand the schedule won't be out until the end of April and we can't really plan anything until then but the last piece of the jigsaw will be The Jets home game. I'd like to know what live sports events you would recommend over a Fri-Mon long weekend in NY/NJ around The Jets game on a Sunday. Suggestions needed please!! Thanks in advance.
Well if we're being serious here, he should schedule his trip around an Army game at West Point. Best college game day experience outside of the top 5 or 6 programs in the country. The pageantry, the cadets, the statues, the campus-outstanding. Love the paratroopers jumping out of Blackhawks, spiraling spiraling spiraling out over the Hudson and over the stadium with the last trooper landing on the 50 yard line logo, unzipping his bag and handing the game ball to the ref. The sound of the choppers as they come up the Hudson with the sound echoing off the palisades is awesome. _
Thanks for the West Point tip. That sounds awesome. I'd never have worked that out myself which is precisely why I came on here and asked. I'll check out their schedule. Thanks a Million!!
Honestly, get there early, it's some pretty small roads getting in and out. And they have a massive tailgate crowd so I'm not sure about parking. The area is freaking beautiful and the campus is truly historic. The football game will be a sidelight to the whole day experience. You could spend all day just looking at the statues and monuments. And the cadets marching around campus in full dress is pretty unique. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monuments_at_the_United_States_Military_Academy _
Right. So now the schedule is out we are looking at this. Fri 21 Oct - Mets v Braves Sat 22 Oct - Army v North Texas Sun 23 Oct - JETS v Ravens Mon 24 Oct - Mets v Phillies Should be a great weekend. Can't wait!!
That sound awesome. Would I have to get a zip car or is there some kind of public transportation up there?
I think it would be hard to get to on public transportation but I've never really thought about it. It's kind of tucked in out of no where. It's a beautiful drive up though. Bear Mountain Bridge and the Hudson. Take a car. _
