On Sunday, Lewis returns to the Jets as the team’s honorary captain for a game against the Patriots in New England. Via Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, the Jets have made the invitation to Lewis, who has accepted. Some will interpret the move as a not-so-subtle desire that a current Jets player will send Brady to Belize. Or at least out of the AFC East. “Hopefully, he gets traded at some point in time,” linebacker Calvin Pace said, via Cimini. “Trade him to the NFC somewhere.” Pace nevertheless accepts the fact that Brady’s career won’t be ending in the near future. “I don’t see that guy retiring anytime soon,” Pace said. “He shouldn’t.” While it’s taboo to talk about these things post-Bountygate, the Jets surely wouldn’t complain if a clean, legal hit on Brady were to become the first domino in a chain reaction that leads him out of Boston. Based on the Jets’ overall luck since the days of Namath, however, that outcome probably would just launch 15 years of Jimmy Garoppolo domination.
I can only imagine the logic behind him being honorary captain this game is to troll NE a little bit. That doesn't really seem like a Bowels kinda of thing to do. So, honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it.

Biggest game of the year and they choose to poke the bear. This went from a we must win this game to a better have won this game. Come Sunday evening the Jets had better be on the winning side of this. Infact we better win out, because the media fallout is going to be immense. I'll say one thing tho, it takes some balls to gamble with what could essentially be the legacy of his first season come Sunday.

I don't like this, particularly as it seems to "honor" Bledsoe's injury. Why not line up the flying lawnmower while we're at it? This shit should have disappeared with Rex.
I don't think it's such a bad idea. In a way, it actually honors both teams. The Jets, because Lewis was a solid performer for so many years. The Patriots, because his action launched the career of one of the greatest QB's to ever play. And it also honors the irony that can permeate a game like football......guy makes a good play in a single game that comes back to haunt his team for almost two decades.
