Given the fact that Mangini insists on coaching this team with an eye to next year and beyond (his insistence on staying with a 3-4 alignment he can't support), then he should be using the rest of his roster in a likewise way.

    2 scenarios for Brad Smith:

Scenario 1: Tangini drafted Smith with the idea that he would be a WR; he's big, fast, and a playmaker...great, then let's play him at WR. Let's see how good he can be there--maybe stretch the defense like Moss used to do for us--so we can see if maybe we're set at WR going into the offseason.

Scenario 2: The Jets fall out of contention halfway through November. Obviously, Clemens gets a look at QB, but how about taking a look at Smith in that role?

Mangini's says the best players play...let's see who's really the better candidate to be heir apparent at QB. IMO, Clemens looks like another wooden statue. I'd like to see what our Vince Young Jr. could do with the backing of the team's coaching staff.

how does clemens look like a statue!? when have you seen him enough to say hes slow. out of college he has decent mobility. with time clemens can be our man.

also ive always been curious to see a qbbc (quarterback by commite)lol. florida kinda has it a little bit. smith can do run option plays like vick. and clemens can be our playaction passer qb. just a thought. never will happen but would like to see it.

I sure as hell don't wanna see another Brad Smith handoff to an inside draw again. I started getting the Hackett Yips when they did that yesterday!!

i think mangini wants smith to make the choice of wether to give it to him or not. he just never keeps it. one of the times smith could have easily had a big gain if he kept it, so maybe im wrong.

In the cleveland game, when brad smith came in as QB, it was obvious he wasn't going to pass the ball. I think they were setting up some situations where Smith will actually throw the ball against NE. At least, I wouldn't be surprised if they let him throw on third and short.

I agree they should let him take some snaps and throw the ball or put him in the slot. McCariens and Dwight have shown me nothing at WR, get Smith on the field in a postion to make big plays not trick plays.

Not even just throwing the ball but he should be getting screens, reverses and going out for passes as well as the occassional pass. it's hard to complain when we have had about an 80% success rate w/ those short yardage plays w/ Smith but teams are catching on and we need to show something new.

I will say this. He has to be regarded as one of the best special teams rookies in the league..and perhaps one of the best all around. I cant remember a guy playing special teams in coverage as well as he has for the Jets..ever.

Dwight isn't doing much, Justin is getting limited balls thrown his way, not sure if he isn't open or just not getting the chance. Let's see if Smith can get open on 3rd and 4.

    LET HIM THROW THE BALL!!!!
I like the idea of using him as a Randle-El/Slash Stewart type guy, but it doesnt work when you don't let him throw the damn ball. Bringing him in at QB and running draws worked a little at the beginning of the year, because the possibility of him throwing kinda thru the defense off. But its been 8 games of the same stuff and not letting him even attempt to throw it, the defenses aren't scared of him anymore; it was evident yesterday. You HAVE to let him throw it, just to keep the defenses off guard. An incomplete bomb, or a short completion in the flat even does this trick, just to juggle things.

Another thing about Smith's role that bugs me. Whenever they bring him in, they keep Pennington in and split him out at WR, how dumb is that!!!! THe cornerback certainly isn't worried about Pennington actually catching a pass, or even blocking him, essentially making it 10 against 11. Take Pennington out when Smith comes in!!!

Why not...lets face it..if JM hasnt emerged now..its not like hes going to find himself the last 8 games.

You have Coles..you have Cotch..what risks are you taking by putting an oustanding work in progress out there as your 3rd receiver..and Im sure thats going to be a gameplan during the bye week.

We should definitely get him a few series for himself with all plays in the book open. Just to see if we have something.

If I ever see Brad Smith line up at QB in a 3rd and short, I might just put my coffee table through my TV. He may be a good WR, he may be a an excellent ST guy, and if given the chance he may very well be able to complete a pass..... but... He is NOT a mother loving running back!!!!!!

Chad is our QB, regardless of the 2nd half I'd like to forget. Smith makes this team anywhere BUT at QB. Chad takes the snaps, PERIOD. I was almost sick on those calls yesterday.

I'm like junc, I wanna see more of Smith just not in the situations with him on the field. I wanna see hime line up as a slot WR or I wanna see a reverse or flea flicker some type of ridiculous play.

Could you imagine a play where Smith and Graham both line up as WRs in a 3rd and short situation? How on earth would that play be scouted?

And as for his special teams play that spot is now a position in the PB and I don't ever remember seeing anybody play that gunner spot and make as many open field tackles as he has. Hopefully he is eligable because I don't think right now there is anybody better in the NFL than him at that position.
