We're set at corner with Revis & Marcus. Fill an actual need if you're gonna pay somebody 15-20 mil. per year.
Norman doesn't fit Bowles scheme. He's a strictly zone cover and doesn't move over the field. He doesn't have top end speed as is (got burnt by OBJ) so in a few years he will be slower. No thanks (he's a great player though)
You may be right, but I believe there are almost always more than those two choices. For one thing, they could restructure some contracts to gain more cap space. For another, the cap will rise. For still another, by 2017 Davis could be done. As you said, J. Stewart will probably be gone. For yet another, you're discounting that they could replace some players via the draft or cheap FA signings. As I said earlier, Charles Johnson could be gone by then, Allen undoubtedly will be, as well some of the others. They could still have a very, very good team.
The defensive scheme that Norman plays in dictates that he plays in zone. To say that he is not a "cover" corner or isn't proficient playing man is unfounded and not based on facts. When given the assignment to play man on man he has excelled at the task. As of 2 months ago: To those of you saying that it's not worth having two elite corners in Bowles system, I think the fact that they gave Cro the contract that he has at the age and ability level he was at says everything.
can't afford him, don't need him. next young CB we acquire should be a BPA draft pick. Give most of our available cap space to Wilk, Fiz and Ivory instead.
The same was said about Rex's system. It's bad enough that $24 million was tied up in the CB position this year. $28-$30 million would be insane. It doesn't matter how great your CBs are if you can't generate consistent pressure on the opposing QB and he has all day to pick your defense apart. Even the best CBs can only keep their man or area of the field covered for about 3.5-4 seconds and then things break down. The Jets need a stud pass rusher much more than they need another stud CB. Now if you're talking about replacing Revis with Norman, that's another matter, but not both.
No way we just cut Brick. Not without an actual backup. And you don't think we keep Mo? This thread is...yeah let's invest another $14/m into our secondary. Instead of idk our OL or some linebackers, pass rushers. But yeah.
I hope they stay far away from Smith even if it is on the cheap. I would rather they not have piece of shit players on the team.
If Rex is still in Siberia, I can see Norman winding up there. He's a Rex kinda player. Hardnosed, penalty prone.. Just the kinda player Rexy likes.
Nah! we'll need the cash for Mo, Snacks and Fitz. We can always do what they do over at NE and use Revis (if he slows) to shut-out their #2 guy like they do with Butler (but Revis is obviously better even at 90%) and double team the Landry, OBJ's and Watkins of the world. Look for a RB in the draft and maybe a vet FA and start thinking about generating some pass rush and speed in the LB corps.
Outside of their two stud defensive tackles I'd imagine most of those players walk/don't command big contracts. Assuming they let Star go and keep the interior pass rusher Kawann Short around, I imagine Carolina will have plenty of cap room to get a deal with Norman done. I don't really get why you'd think subpar Jared Allen, and average Mario Addison/Michael Oher would demand big deals. Not to mention they'll probably going to be jumping for joy when Charles Johnson's enormous cap hit is off the books. Solid player but he's being paid like a top 5 edge rusher. This thread is a bit silly in the sense that you are assuming Carolina will dish out any big deals to these players.
