I love Chad, and every QB is entitled to a stinker or two each season (I guess). But it's just bizarre the way he shuts down and looks scared in some of these games sometimes. Mangini needs to remind Chad that he's got a 3 -year plan working here, which means when this season is toast (after 2 more losses? 3?) it's Kellen-time and Chad takes a seat. Maybe the cold slap of competition can keep Chad from going soft on us. This game was an abomination.
It would be nice to see Clemens in the last quarter of the season. Let's face it, this team isn't going anywhere. Winning these meaningless games against the Miamis and Detroits is just unnecessarily lowering their draft position.
I want to play the players that give us the best chance to win. So unless Clemens gives us a better chance to win, I want his ass on the sidelines.
This doesn't exactly embrace the idea of rebuilding. In rebuilding you want to put the guys on the field that give you the best chance to win long term.
Chad is 30 years old and has taken the Jets into the 2nd round of the playoffs 2 out of his 4 seasons as a starter...How does that not translate into best chance to win long term? Barring anymore injury, he has another 5 years of prime football...Now I don't think he'll be here in 5 years probably, but you don't bench someone with his resume for a dazed and confused rookie. Not to mention Chad has a great relationship with Mangini and especially Shottenheimer. Mangini trusts Chad and he's not going to yank him for a freaking rookie...at any point during this season. Chad is his quarterback...face it once and for all
This loss will hopefully bring the koolaiders back down to earth for a couple of weeks. We are so far ahead of where I thought we would be in terms of achievment so I'm happy thus far. Right now there is no one on our team that could give Chad any serious competition , remember preseason?
It's debatable. You have to take his injury history into account, and you have to look at the teams in those years, and what the expectations are. Herm "led" us to the playoffs 3 out of 5 years right? That was a "compelling" argument to keep him, but now I don't think anyone except the most hardcore Herm supporters would claim the Mangini for Herm move was the wrong one. I look at Chad and I see striking parallels. Mangini is an unknown, as is Clemens. Mangini has more tools than Herm; Mangini is smarter than Herm, and Clemens has a better arm then Chad. I personally hold the view that Chad has taken us as far as he can, and that his limitations outweigh his benefits for us as a team to get to where I want us to be. I'm not happy sneaking into the playoffs every other year and maybe getting one win and then being out. I'd rather we instead get into the playoffs easily sometime, absolutely annihalate an opponent or two, and seriously contend as one of the top teams in the league. I don't think a Herm or Chad led team can achieve that. I also do not believe Herm and Chad will actually be able to consistently make the playoffs anymore. Before last year, the NFL did have a bit of parity such that weaker teams could get in by just getting lucky and then maybe getting on a roll. From last year on, or maybe 2 years ago, I think there has been a shift in the structure of the league. The succesful teams have figured out how to build and retain a roster, and how to coach it. The weaker teams still have not. As a result, the best teams in the league are considerably better than most of the league. That is, we have an era of superpowers again, but that group of superpowers, in the AFC at least, is larger, such that there is now a clear ruling elite, and a large lower class. This is why there is a plethora of one win teams now, and it takes 10-11 games just to get a wild card. And the wild card for last year just happened to be a team that had won 15 games the year before, so it wasn't exactly a weak team, but rather another superpower that just didn't win as many games as previously. Right now in the AFC you have the Colts, Broncos, Patriots, Ravens, Bengals and the Chargers. The Patriots are probably the weakest of the bunch. KC has the talent, but the crappy coaching will make sure they don't really get anywhere. You can add the Jaguars at home (and they'll be home the next 3 weeks) to that list too. These are teams that will blow out or reliably beat the weaker teams in this league. We're not going to get into the playoffs by just beating the weaker teams in this league, and we've just shown we can't even reliably do that. Even if we did, we're not going to get a playoff win. The structure is just too different now, the AFC is way too strong. The only way to compete is to get either a monster defense (and you'll still lose, as the Broncos showed) or great QB play. Chad simply is not on the level of the QBs on the powerhouses, with the exception of Plummer and possibly Rivers, who both have the benefit of great defenses and running games, but whom both will lose in the playoffs. They are not realistic SB contenders. But they would beat us in the playoffs, because both they can get the same or more out of their QBs that we can out of Chad, but they are superior in other facets that we won't be able to match. We're not going to have LT or Gates or Merriman, we don't have Wilson or Lynch. Let's say we do get that, just hypothetically, then what? Chad won't be able to do anything against their defenses, so we end up not being able to score, or worse, we turn the ball over and help them score. That's just not going to cut it. For the teams with superior QB play, even if we match them in the other facets, we lose because our QB isn't good enough, their QB just outplays ours. I just don't see how Chad can get us into the playoffs and then win. This is obviously all just my opinion. You can feel free to disagree, and probably will. But that is my reasoning for why we need to move on.
wow, Pennington has one bad game and you all want him to be pulled?? The best thing for the Jets to do it keep Pennington going. if they wanna lose everygame and get draft picks(which i think is just stupid) then that will screw up all the team's confidence and put Mangini in a very bad position espically with the media
I'm not prepared to give up on Chad yet. This loss is not squarely on his shoulders. (No pun intended.) We had poor coaching. Our D is garbage, as it's been all year. That Brad Smith play is beyond tired. We got some bad non-calls, in addition to the obvious last play. Our running game is dismal (no Leon is not the answer.) Yes, Chad looked terrible in Cleveland. To put the bulk of responsibility on him for the loss is ridiculous though. When we win, everyone is talking about how great he is. Everyone has bad games. Brady, Peyton, everyone has bad games. Get over the initial anger before you start calling for blood. Besides, if Mangini hasn't yet shown you that he will play the guys that give us the best chance to win, you haven't been watching all year. If Clemmens were ready, he would be starting. Mangini knows something you don't.
Tiny proportion of people want Chad to sit , but most know quality when they see it.I would like to know How was that game his fault anyway??? He was amazingling accurate on that last play which should have been a score. Had it gone for 6 this thread would not exist. I've seen people on here talking about this before , but to be fair its not restricted to Jets fans. But the idea is retarded.
BTW: Something I noticed just watching the "highlights" on the news, that I did see yesterday, but forgot about with all the anger. Chad was under pressure ALL DAY. Of course he threw scared, he had no time. The pass blocking was dismal. Put that much pressure on Brady or Manning and let's see what happens. Give Chad 3 full seconds to find a man open, and he throws darts all over the field.
I still think Pennington could've taken us farther. We should've been in the AFC Championship in 2004 so who knows.
how long till the timimng routes dont work.. eventaully chad is gonna have to improvise and make a big time throw..and no im not wanting clemens in i to still believe chad is the best option to win right now. but 9tds 8 ints is nothing to get all crazy about.
It was obviously Chad didn't get a good game yesterday. I can't seem to find a reason for it though. But hey, I'm surprised he ducked on the last offensive play for us and got that ball to Baker, but we all know how that ended...
Chad is having a good season, and yeah it was a rough game, and yeah his stats might not be great always, but he runs this offense very well. I don't know a rookie could manage the game like that, and I'm not willing to give up on this season yet.
We used to think the same thing about Chad. I remember people saying "there must be something wrong with this guy...there's a reason he's not playing yet". Once he got in, he turned out ok...sort of. I'm not saying Clemens is the answer, but a few more losses and I would agree it's time to see what the kid can do. Or we could just keep telling ourselves we are "built to win now", and keep putting a mediocre playoff sniffer on the field year after year.
Sure not what I saw. The pass blocking has been good all year and yesterday was not an exception. As for his throwing darts I've got to disagree with that too. He'll usually put the ball in the vicinity of a WR and give them a chance to come down with it. Yesterday he wasn't even doing that We saw this same kind of chickenshit play in the Miami game, but then he finally woke up and started throwing to Coles in the 2nd half. This time it took him until the last drive of the game to wake up and he put the Jets in a position to get screwed by the refs.
