This play reminds me of the touchdown the refs took away from us against the Deadskins during Keyshawn's rookie year. Fucking intolerable. I am still so pissed about today's travesty of justice. TBTF
  MY favorite part was "You want the NFL's Diversity Committee on our asses?? You want Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson protesting outside your house ??" so true...
First off, i wasnt calling you ignorant. i was calling the people who dont understand the concept of a judgement call ignorant. Second, its not the same reason you cant challenge PIs or Illegal contact calls...you cant challenge penaltys.
Question: If Mike Nugent splits the uprights on a last-second 40 yard field goal, and 2 of the refs say that in their 'JUDGEMENT' the ball was wide right, can we review it ????
Wait; they said he wasn't forced out? I thought it was he wouldn't have come down in bounds. Reading this just sent me through the roof, what did he magically land land out bounds? There is no way his momentum would have carried him like that. I watched the play on TiVo ecen slowed it way down adn he was definately pushed but Lawyer A and Accountant B don't have that luxury.
Carey says "He would not have come down inbounds" he never said their was no force out on the play...
If the refs were good refs at ALL, they would of ruled the play a TD reguardless if was completely obvious or not. IN that situation, especially when Baker was knocked out HARD, they have to call it a TD. If it wasn't a TD then the booth would of overturned it and the game would of been over and the Jets lose. We played like shit and the best play of the entire game didn't count. Boo
If thats the case I'm with you all the way. When the play happened I jumped up and screamed TD and my friend was like no he was out of bounds. I turned to him and said "Its gonna be ruled a force out, he got pummeled out of bounds". Sure enough replay showed I was right and my friend acknowledged my skills lol. Awful officiating.
i'm with jaywayne in believing that almost every call is a judgement call to begin with. besides, i've definitely seen plays before, where the refs reviewed a catch in/out of bounds in which the WR was forced out. so, if it was reviewed then, why not now? cheers
I love how people want to bring up the rules and say "well, you can't review it because that would be against the rules!" Meanwhile the refs clearly didn't know/misapplied a rule to get us to this situation. How come these assholes always know when their idiocy can't be questioned yet they still can't manage to learn the actual rules that effect what happens on the field? It's my "judgement call" that plays like that should be reviewed. I don't care that the rules say it can't be! And since it's my judgement call you can't challenge it! Oh wait, this is the real world, not the ass backwards NFL.
This is great!!! If it was anyone one else that through that pass like a Manning boy, it would have been reviewed.
I'm getting the sense that we've gotten past the point of caring here, but for those who do still care, here goes. The point of replay is to (when possible) correct points of fact. Whether a person lands inbounds or out of bounds is not a matter of opinion, but rather a matter of fact - he either did or he didn't. Therefore, this question can, at least in principle, be resolved unambiguously by a replay, and it is therefore reviewable. Whether he landed in or not is NOT the referee's opinion - he either did or he didn't. Same thing for whether a field goal goes through the uprights or not - it either did or it didn't. Whether someone would have landed inbounds if not hit is NOT a matter of fact, but rather of opinion, since it didn't actually happen. The league doesn't want someone (the replay official, or the head referee) to be imposing his opinion over someone else's opinion, so it is not reviewable. This is also why penalties are not reviewable - they are not matters of fact, but rather of opinion. If the play had been called a TD it still would not have been reviewable, since the TD would have been based on the officials' opinion as to whether he would have landed inbounds or not (if it had been a question of possession, it would have been reviewable, because that is a question of fact - did he have possession when he landed, or didn't he). It is blindingly obvious that it was a bad call, and the fact that apparently the closest official called it a forceout and a TD only makes it worse. The league will no doubt acknowledge this, which is cold comfort to the Jets, but there was NOTHING wrong with the decision to not review it, since there was no decision at all. I was confused on this point at the time, but it really is time to let that aspect of it go.
I don't think anyone is denying the fact that according to the rules the play is not reviewable. However we've certainly seen in the past some "judgement calls" by the refs taken away and brought under the umbrella of instant replay. I mean, what is ruling if a QB was in the act of throwing or not on a fumble but a judgement call? Unfortunately since this is a relatively meaningless regular season game and the refs usually correctly rule in favor of the receiver on plays like this I doubt we'll see sufficient uproar to change the rule.
And for the 15th time....yes he did..heres the quote and the article. "There was not a force out on the play," Carey said. "There was nothing to review. It's a judgment call http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/recap;_ylt=Aoaft3XZSnmyHJbLA2iNR7Q5nYcB?gid=20061029005
Actually, I agree with you on that one, and I could support things like that taken out of instant replay for just that reason.
Look my HO is that if at the end of the game after going thru the motions for 59 minutes of the game then so be it if the refs judgement goes against us on a crucial play. Who knows if they would have called it a TD if our PK would have made the xtra point & if he did what would have occurred in OT with there O & DLines totally dominating us
