This is easily the best tandem of WR's that we've had in a looong time. I remember myself saying the same thing just 4-5 years ago when we all got to watch Sanchez sling mostly inaccurate passes toward Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. I thought those guys were good, best'we'd had in a bit, but Marshall-Decker makes that tandem look like Tom & Jerry. We haven't had a 1000 yard receiver since Cotchery hit that landmark back in 2007. Marshall is already over 1000 and there is 4 more games left to be played. As it stands now.... Brandon Marshall: 83 Receptions, 1062 Receiving Yards, 10 TD's in 12 games played Projected 2015 Finish: 111 Receptions, 1416 Receiving Yards, 13 TD's Eric Decker: 59 Receptions, 801 Receiving Yards, 8 TD's in 11 games played Projected 2015 Finish: 80 Receptions, 1092 Receiving Yards, 11 TD's These projections are based on their per game averages. We haven't had a 1000 yard receiver in almost 10 years. We will most likely have 2 of them assuming no injuries and that these guys continue on their current paces. I don't think I can stress enough how important Eric Decker has been to our offense. Marshall gets a ton of love, and deservedly so, but Decker has done a damn fine job this season as well. He is capable of running deep routes, but his best work is definitely underneath. He's done a very good job out of the slot and I'd like to continue seeing him there. He also affords Marshall a lot more single coverage than he would get if it was a one man show. I believe we have Marshall on contract for the next couple of seasons? And Decker as well. I believe both of their contracts are good value as well. This tandem is going to be fun to watch. Hopefully we see Petty throwing them passes sooner than later. I've gotta show Fitzy some love though too. I know he's got half the pea shooter Pennington had, but he's been efficient and has gotten the ball to our big guys. What a difference mediocre QB play makes.
It'd be very impressive if we had 2 1,000 yard receivers despite not having 1 since 2007, as well as having our first 1,000 yard rusher since 2012 in the same season. Fire Gailey.
decker gets amazingly open in the middle of the field, fitz hit him 3 times in a row sunday v giants.
The Marshall trade was the best thing to happen to Decker. He wasn't supposed to be THE guy Now he doesn't have to see as many double teams and he can line up anywhere
People gave Decker a lot of crap because Peyton Manning was not longer throwing to him. In reality, he is an amazing #2 that thrives when he's not the main guy. That's okay, because he does work in his role. I believe we are at #12 in passing yards per game. Welcome to the modern NFL fellas.
I do think Decker is a decent #1, but yeah, he's MUCH MORE suited to be an elite #2 opposite a true #1 (ie. Marshall).
Considering how good that tandem is, you would think we would have more success with the deep ball to Devin Smith. Not unlike how Dedrick Ward seemingly caught one deep pass a game back in 1998 thanks to the attention Keyshawn and Chrebet were getting.
TWO 1000 yard WRs and a 1000 yard RB. How do you defend that??? Without a TE in sight. wow. Imagine if Devin Smith clicks and provides a true deep threat.
I always thought that Decker was a perfect compliment a solid 2 he just isn't a true 1 but our tandem is lethal...it brings out the best in both !
To me Decker is one of the best route runners in the league. His drops are minimal and he isn't afraid to take a hit. Marshall plays like he's about 6 foot 10. The biggest WR trade steal since the Pats got Moss for a 4th. Sounds like he's finally playing with a QB that he trusts too.
If their is one major flaw of Fitzpatrick's its obviously the deep ball...but just one deep TD changes that so we can only hope...
Believe or not Idiot Idzik got Decker as a free agent from Denver prob JI s best move as a GM.....cost the team millions but worth every Penney imho When we acquired Decker there was big talk , speculation on TGG that only Peyton "made Decker look good" prompting a whole discussion on who makes the other "look good" the receiver or the QB ??? SMH lol Looking back, Decker was instrumental in fueling the Genobot chant to install Smith as QB. He managed to catch what Smith threw his way. But it's obvious to me his stats would never measure up to how he is doing now with Fitz. Him and Marshall are now Pro Bowl ready
Yes, they ARE as of NOW the best duo STAT-WISE.. i actually made a list of this yesterday because twitter tried to argue me down when i said they are the best duo in the league. I understand Martavis Bryant missed 4 games and had he not i'm almost 100% sure Steelers would be number 1. But shoulda coulda woulda. Heres the list i made of some of the other best around the league. 1. 83 rec/ 1062 yrds/ 10 TDS - Marsh 59 rec/ 801 yrds/8 TDs - Deck 2. 65 rec/1080 yrds/11 TDs- Allen Robinson 48 rec/ 758 yrds/ 7 TDs - Hurns 3. 93 rec/ 1310 yrds/ 7 TDs - AB 48 rec/ 623 yrds/ 6 TDs - Martavis Bryant (missed 4 games) 4. 78 rec/ 972 yrds/ 3 TDs - Damaryius Thomas 55 rec/ 771 yrds/ 4TDs- E. Sanders 5. 91 rec/ 1047 yrds/ 7 TDs - Fitzgerald (Fountain of Youth trip) 51 rec/ 817 yrds/ 4 TDs - John Brown Feel Free to add to the list.. But i say we have the best Duo as of now ... esp. with Fitz at QB. Feels AMAZING because we're always bottom feeders in this category.
They have to perform at this level together for at least another year before you can put them above Walker and Toon.
I was around to watch Walker and Toon, and these guys are just as talented. They just need to do it for another year or two to reach the level of Walker/Toon. Toon, IMO, is the most underrated WR in NFL history. Legit 1st ballot HOF material, just too bad it never panned out due to injuries.
