i wouldn't go that far unless he sticks around long term and stays productive. if he is gone next year or the year after for cap reasons then id say its just a tad better then braylon edwards deal, maybe on par since while braylon didnt post those numbers he was a stud in the playoffs.
is it? Edwards didnt put up the numbers Marshall had (edwards was at 900/8TD) But he also had 2 huge playoff performances in the 2 biggest games we played, @ NE and @Indy. he beasted the pats and had that huge TD and also had that great catch to set up the GW against Indy. Obviously Marshall is a better player, but if he only sticks around for 1 season or 2 seasons i dont think the trade is "one of the best in team history" and is alot closer to the edwards trade... a.k.a a very good short term move that helped maximize the upside of an older core/bad QB situation. I actually think its pretty similar.
Also, lets give decker his due as well. 60, 800, 8 TD while being injured a couple games isnt too bad either. he projects to have 80/1200/12 himself by years end
Marshall is as class an act as anyone can be in this league. Check this out (if you don't follow him on Instagram already) - https://www.instagram.com/p/_AYXcPItIx/?taken-by=bmarshall
Marshall has been in a constant turmoil against his own mind throughout his life; it really took him to some dark alleys - it's great that you can see he has found peace within himself and that's really spreading throughout the organization in a positive matter. I am sure this is the same in his personal life with the people closest to him. I doubt we are SB bound, but I hope we get to a point where we are in a situation to truly contend for a SB and he's still here as a receiver. It's night and day compared to a guy like Holmes.
there's a part of me that wonders why this guy keeps getting traded away when he puts up good numbers everywhere he's been.
I agree. To call the Marshall trade one of the best in team history after 12 games is shortsighted. If Marshall gets hurt next week and never plays another down for the Jets, Braylon would look like the better trade. So far it looks pretty good.
Toon was very good but Wesley Walker got so much separation that it looked like he had a 10 yard restraining order against opposing DBs. They were unstoppable when they were both healthy at the same time.
One of the best pickups in Jets history. We haven't had a true #1 WR IN forever and this guy is a true leader. Him and Fitz have some great chemistry and Fitz really trusts him a lot. He also really opens things up for Decker to really earn that contract. We have a solid WR corp. just need to make the big catches consistently and we'll be golden
looking for fly shit in the pepper......hahaha love it! Back to Marshall, we've been without a true #1 for so many years now we've convinced ourselves we'd be just fine without one. Having Marshall reminds us of how important offensive weapons really are.
After reading some of the responses I can't help but wonder what the consensus would be for the top trades in NYJ history, Marshall non withstanding for now. The one that jumps out for me is Kevin Mawae from a longevity and contribution point of view, or Jenkins albeit injury prone.
I would go on record to say that without Marshall we would be out of play off contention by now, with 4 wins at the most.
Dude, I was JUST getting ready to "say" the same thing as well as post Wesley Walker hi'lites........!!!
Marshall may not be the BEST trade of all time, but he is certainly (so far) in the top 5, maybe top 3. I love the guy. He's gritty, a baller, a leader, and appears to be a genuine, honest, and nice human being as well. There are a lot of jerseys I'd buy on this team right now, but Fitz, Marshall, and Decker are right at the top of that list. These have to easily be some of the best signings by a Jets GM in YEARS. Marshall is the first TRUE #1 we have had since KJ.
I knew Marshall was going to be good...was born to be a Jet,underdog & maligned ...He was the only No. 1 WR who gave Revis Consistent fits (Megatron BTW was helpless in the island) when Revis was in his prime...B.Marshall lives on challenges and has no fear...I really hope we make the playoffs because he will go out guns blazing... He is unique as wide receivers go...a mix of M.Irvin for Toughness and C.Carter for TD catches...all three were never blazers...
