Wanna know the best way to go from 4-12 to 5-3? Scoring lots of touchdowns. Last year the Jets were dead last in red zone TD % at 36%, this year they're number 1 at 75%. Good teams don't settle. Hopefully this keeps up.
I've noticed that this year's red zone offense has been much more player oriented as opposed to last year's scheme oriented, which is the way it should be. When you get down near the goal line, you need to design plays to give your best playmakers the opportunity to score. We've seen a lot of jump balls to Marshall and Decker as well as inside runs/screens to Ivory. Last year, Marty tried to get way too cute by targeting 3rd and 4th options and using deception. This is working a lot better.

True. That 75% would be a little higher, (and we very well may be 6-2) if Marshall had caught that pass in NE. It's a good sign though. Fitz has talked about this as a point of emphasis.
Eric Decker has 6 TD's in 7 games, Ivory's also got 6 on the ground alone. We've got some red zone threats and an OC that doesn't get cute with his play calling, its not surprising that we're able to convert more.
I don't know about this stat--lets say a team has only been in the red zone 1 time all year and got a TD--they would be the leading red zone offense at 100%. Surely that would be irrelevant to their true offensive capability which doesn't get them many opportunities. This stat is better used for comparison between teams who have been in the red zone an equal amount of times. Then if one team has a higher percentage, that may say something.

he's been a great red zone receiver his whole career. last year we just didn't get there enough. Marshall also is traditionally a great red zone receiver. That's why were seeing a big improvement, the two of them together. Wide Receivers can have a bigger impact in the red zone than any where else.
Having Marshall on the team has def helped out in the coverage of Decker... props to MM for pulling off the trade... that said, coach TB and our journeyman QB deserve plenty of credit for it as well !
I think you nailed it. Simple concepts and not getting fancy down in the red zone and just letting playmakers make plays is a huge part of the success. I can't remember a time in years where I have been this happy with the offensive game planning and play calling. While Gailey won't always get an A+ every game, there really hasn't been too many WTF moments on offense where we call something completely absurd like a wildcat or everyone running a 5 yard curl on 3rd and 15.
Too bad we weren't a few % points better and Marshall caught that ball vs New England. Impressive nonetheless
Love those 20 yard lasers from Fitz to Decker. Balls on a rope. No arm problems inside the 20! Add 10 yards for drop back and 10 more for endzone and those are 30-40 yards throws right on target.
