Nope. The 2013 draft looked surprisingly weak. Thought it would be fun to have dbl picks in 2014 (plus a few extra first rounders). It was a simple concept I thought even morons like you could grasp.
I tried to trade my girlfriend to Derek Jeter for one of his supermodel harem babes...... I even offered to throw in my old truck and baseball card collection. He said NO. WTF!?!
Why is this a thread? The Titans were never trading that second pick. Mariota was their guy all along. Selling the farm wouldn't have been enough.
Maybe they would've traded the pick if this were Madden and not real life. Aside from Ubiquitous' point, qbs have a high bust potential.
I've never bought in to the 'lose for draft position'...but watching this kid Mariota play may be changing my opinion. If there was a chance to get him by doing what we do best (lose), then we should have gone that route. OTH...I believe Williams is doing a good job for us...but a d lineman just can't have the same impact as a QB.
I will regret not losing those extra two games til the day we finally get our very own franchise QB, which might be forever.
I regret Dawan Landry tackling Delanie Walker on the music city miracle part 2 play. I was so fucking excited that they were gonna score.
How were we going to lose those two games? The players wouldn't quit / throw games. Rex Ryan and Idzik didn't want to lose games to "help" the franchise get a better draft pick, they were on their way out. So who would've masterminded the effort? Just cuz the fans want it doesn't mean it'll happen.
Ssh, no one wants to acknowledge this. Rather hate the coach/gm that got fired for losing too many games because they didn't lose enough games. Its how we stay sane
So far Ive wanted Mariota every Sunday...and Id say that even if he wasnt my favorite CFB player ever
I posted in another thread & feel very stongly about this proclamation: We all need to wake up & stop turning a blind eye to this piss poor QB situation & frankly the entire passing game. It's held this team back for arguably decades. No matter how loaded we are on D...expecting perfection isn't realistic. Have some respect for modern NFL offenses. 9 times out of 10 they are going to put up points. Now in some areas this D needs to improve..but we need to give up this silly dream of this all time great defense that shuts everybody out. It's not a healthy recipe for winning & puts additional pressure on the D, which likely contributes to the inconsistencies we see week to week. For modern standards this defense is elite...and it has been for quite some time. There's a foundation in place for that to continue. This is a WINNING defense. There aren't many in today's NFL..most just try to bend but not break or try to create turnovers. Stop trying to build this super unit. It doesn't work. Offensively, we all cling onto the running game far too heavily. Yes the Jets have a better than average running game. But any running game can be shut down w/ enough tape & the proper run fits. Some weeks you HAVE to throw the ball. Not just play action. Not just dink & dunk. A real modern passing game that can actually function on the road, that can break down a blitz, that can manufacture LEGIT explosive plays w/o trickery. This passing game is simply unacceptable. We'll continue to be soft & fold in the clutch repeatedly until this is fixed.Let's face it...take away the brute image of the OL/Ivory & this is the softest offense in the NFL year in & year out. They are almost paralyzed on the road, in key situations, in the red zone & anytime the OL isn't pushing the other team around. It is absolute garbage. We shouldn't stand for it any longer. The object of the game is to SCORE. Even worse are the self inflicted wounds. There's no clearcut leader who can put the team on their back or establish a level of accountability. The team has no backbone. Patriots talk trash...Jets go out & lay an egg;Rex is a complete tasteless dick...do the Jets make him pay & blow out his defense by double digits? No.They shoot themselves in the foot by coming out flat & shooting themselves in the foot.If i'm an opposing team, I talk trash about the jets all week long. When the Jets are provoked they fold like a tent. Like clockwork.Maybe Rex knew that.Maybe that's what IK was all about. It worked. The Jets have absolutely no fight. No pride & no backbone.Just when you think it can't get any worse & they'll finally get pissed & dedicated enough to fight for restitution, they fall flat on their face. Somebody needs to come in here & be a take no prisoners field general who will fight to the bitter end. Enough of this pansy, inconsistent mess. The only way this offense is getting fixed is this franchise's Achilles' heel: A legit franchise altering QB with the toughness to handle both the NY media & be the hard nosed "take no shit" leader this team needs. Being able to beat a blitz & establish a non garbage time deep passing attack would be nice too. This "hole filling/paper champ" game we all play every year w/ free agency & the draft doesn't work. We've fielded teams that were loaded top to bottom...21/22 solid starters. But in crunchtime when it really counts...the Jets still fold. They either fold in a hostile environment or fall "1 or 2 plays short".Typically the types of plays you need a QB to execute. End the madness. Whatever it takes. 1 first rounder...10 first rounders...the whole entire D-line for all I care. Just get this team its franchise QB. Where's Mike Milbury when you need him?
Hurts just to read this. But hey, how great was 4-12 last year? SO much better than 2-14. I would have felt that embarrassment for the next 12 years. _
This board is gonna explode if Mariota beats us in a couple weeks. "Oh, so NOW we lose to the Titans"
Well, we're only talking about the next decade plus of who COULD have been our QB. It's not like we haven't been graced at the position. _
Fire everyone in-season and hire interims I guess. Tampa actually did tank the last drive of the season against the Saints last year (putting in their #2 defense in a one-possession game) to get the #1 pick. But yeah realistically you can't expect teams to overtly tank, well I guess the Colts did to get Luck but it sure didn't help Caldwell or Polian.
You can regret not getting Mariota, but to be upset b/c we didn't lose our last 2 on purpose is insane. The draft is the enemy of our current roster. The draft represents the men who are coming in to take their jobs away. So the HC has this conversation: "Geno, look, we want you to lose the last 2 games so we can draft Mariota and kick you to the curb. Will you do this for us?" "Oh, and let Mangold know we want a top pick in the 2nd round so we can kick him to the curb too. Thanks buddy." Players want to win to get lower draft picks for the obvious reason. Especially at their positions. A player would NEVER throw a game to get a better pick, which could be his replacement. Only retarded fans get upset when their team refuses to lose on purpose.
