What would be the point of acquiring another post-prime player to support a season which is in trouble because we have no QB available for the next month and maybe longer?
We could have Gronk on this team and he wouldn't be featured Gailey for w/e reason sees no use for TE's
Vernon Davis costs too much money to use as a half season rental. We need a safety more than TE right now
When he caught the ball in stride, I said who is THAT? Then saw it was Cumby...and then I said, WHERE HAS HE BEEN? He was showing that speed that we all know he has...it was good to see him make a play, easily his best game in YEARS.
Nice catch in stride...he was pushing for every yard....his biggest impact play of the season, bar none. I think we all collectively said, "who the f-ck is that?"
He's such a freaking mismatch and adds such a difficult dynamic to manage, it's hard to believe a position like that would be written out of any offense. Makes no sense. And yet... Give me one of those dudes over a flashy wideout any day. They certainly don't grow on trees. Which is why sniffling at a top notch TE is so short sighted. It CAN be a game-changing component. Heard it even from Belichick's own mouth, when he blamed one of the Patriots' playoff failures solely on not having a healthy Gronkowski. If there could ever be a do-over of that 2010 draft, is there any legitimate question that he would be among the top five picks? Maybe even number one. On the other hand, it's this sort of thinking gave us Kyle Brady instead of Warren Sapp. So, well, I guess there's that. Heh.
Fun Fact: between 2000 and 2010, the Patriots drafted 10 TEs. Belichick was constantly looking for his formulaic TE combo. The only 3 years they didn't select a TE in the draft were 2007-2009. Not coincidentally, Randy Moss and Wes Welker were obtained in the 2007 offseason before the draft, and they spent the next 3 seasons killing pass defenses. Gronk and Hernandez were drafted the same season (2010) that Moss was stuck to the back of a dark shelf and forgotten until he was released.
