Is it blasphemy to say that the Indiana Jones and Last Crusade was a better movie than Raiders of the lost Ark?
Indiana Jones is completely unnecessary in Raiders. You take him out of the movie entirely and the nazis still all die in the end when they open the Arc. 1. Crusade 2. Arc 3. Temple of Doom 4. The complete Young Indiana Jones box set 5. Crystal Skull http://cen.acs.org/articles/91/i9/Crystal-Skulls-Deemed-Fake.html
Temple of Doom was worse than Crystal Skull. Willie Scott was more useless and more annoying a character than Jar-Jar Binks.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is iconic. The opening sequence in the jungle ruins is one of the best action scenes ever filmed. The snakes scene in the Egyptian tomb is another classic. Then you have the works of the almighty happening one after the other in brilliant illumination and juxtaposed against the most evil of evils. I just can't see the other three stacking up against the original. I think the closest is Crusade and then the last movie.
Never bring a knife to a gun fight. Also the scene in the Tibetan bar when he comes to get the amulet (and Marian.)
C'mon! Raiders is an iconic film in so many ways. Crusade is pretty good too, but there is only one Raiders of the Lost Ark. The other two have their moments, but are pale imitations when all is said and done.
" its not the years its the mileage" Raiders of the lost ark One of my favorite lines from cinema. Rings truer every day
The director fell in love with the lead actress in Temple of Doom. That's often a recipe for less of a film than you'd otherwise see.
Right. You can see they wrote more lines for her than the film needed. And her neurotic, affected performance really dragged the film down. Not to mention a plot that was patently ridiculous even for movies of this type.
