http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...s-to-Top/32c6a394-53da-4fbe-b8d6-b0f0763d4840 So there.. The world did not end Oct. 25th, 2015. We actually ascended to the #1 Run D in the NFL with a Loss. Crazy right? Relax people. Cmon back in off the ledge. This team is in pretty good shape overall. Sure, we have some warts however, can any of you doubt that this team is light years ahead of expectations? Bowles and company are ahead of schedule and we couldn't be further from the 4-12 even if Lombardi himself were coaching us... Enjoy this Jet Fans! Feel good for once!!!
I think they would have at least tried had lewis been available. we'll need the run d to be stout in Oakland. I'm not worried about that, but this game is no cake walk.
Sunday's rushing totals tell a weird tale, but I think accurately. A good part of the story may be: the Patriots didn't try to run because they couldn't; but I'm not sure a healthy offensive line would have yielded such a whopping good result anyway.
Hilarious this is even a thread. We're #1 by default as Brady passed more times and didn't run it more than anyone else in the last 10 years. Our run D is good, but we still lost the game. I'm more worried about Latavius Murray this week in the passing game. No Pryor to come in and take him down. Dion Bailey just yesterday said he "got to play against a legend". Fantastic, sucking on Brady after he burns us. Nice Bailey
I wonder why more teams with good/great QB's don't do what the Patriots just did to us. A good running back averages 4-5 yards per attempt, an average QB averages almost 7 yards per attempt. The expected gain of a passing play is much higher than that of a run play. The counterpoint is that a QB's yards per attempt will decline if the defense is allowed to sit on the pass, but if you have a quarterback who is good at diagnosing, that angle is negated. Exclusively passing will wear down the pass rush over the course of a game and theoretically average a first down every 2 plays. I wouldn't be shocked if this turned into the new wave of the NFL, with run plays being replaced by high percentage passes like bubble screens or pick plays, setting up the downfield pass with short passes rather than runs. At least, until the NFL realizes how ridiculous it is and changes the rules in favor of the defense.
It's on to Oakland. But really I was laughing in the 4th quarter when there wasn't even a RB in the backfield with Brady at all! He threw 54 times which is nuts.
Considering the Patriots made ZERO effort to run the ball, this isn't something to brag about this week. We dropped in the pass ranks and overall so it's not even worth mentioning.
Teams may use this as a blueprint against us, but there are many variables at play that made this work. Ivory was hurt and we couldn't run the ball the way we are use to doing. It would have kept brady off the field more. The pats had great position most the game because of our special teams. If the pats are starting drives at their 20 instead of what seemed like their 45 every possession, we may have been able to force some turnovers with a longer field for Brady. Pryor came out of the game injured early in the third quarter and with bailey replacing him brady went to town. Yeah our D was tired from defending the pass all game, but losing pryor really hurt. Remember, the Pats only scored 16 on us before they scored another TD to take the lead with 7:16 left in the 4th quarter. The pats have Brady. As much as I hate the dude and think he's a pussy, he's one of the few qb's who could carry his team like that.
I find it hard to be excited about this stat, even less so with the homeristic way Jets employee Randy Lange presents it. Yeah, we have an excellent defense, but they looked like shit in the second half and it cost us the game. Blame it on injuries if you want, but it doesn't make it any easier to digest for me.
You're trivializing the game of football, and you sound a bit foolish, like you were raised on Madden video games - no offense. The Patriots make it look easy because they have the greatest QB/coach combo in the league, the best TE, and one of the best slot receivers. There's probably no other team in the NFL that could do what the Pats did and win, not even Rodgers and the Packers.
I really don't doubt a shift to an even more pass oriented league in the near future. When you throw in the frequency of illegal contact, holding and pass interference plays on passes, combined with the fact that the most common penalty on a running play is offensive holding, the expected value of a passing play is so much higher than that of a run play. There's been a noted shift in the league to be more pass oriented in the last decade and I think it'll take off even more soon.
Still have the lowest yards per attempt as well. On the passing side Jets also have the lowest yards per attempt even though they have the 4th best per game.
Here's the thing, Brady and the Pats have been doing this for years, many years. They haven't had a true feature RB in a long time. They've had guys who are really good at catching short passes out of the backfield. That's it. This isn't new. Brady is just simply excellent at what he does. But don't worry, we've beaten him before and we can do it again. I have a good feeling about the rematch in Jersey.
