In either case, the Yankees will take Murphy off the Mets hands if they foil the attempt in resigning him whenever that is.

Well I think the Mets could lose both Cespedes and Murphy. They are presently going in different directions: Murphy's value going up and Cespedes is going down. Murphy is overachieving but just look at his regular season. And that's really what you will get. And his career has been very consistent. But he's pushing his numbers up. The Yankees have been rumored to be interested in Murphy for a couple of years while it's been rumored that Murphy wasn't Sandy's kind of player mostly due to his OBP and lack of walks. I can't see anyone giving Murphy over 15 mil per season. Maybe the Dodgers because Kendricks is a FA, too. As for Cespedes he's proven that he's not consistent enough to be a 25 mil per season player which I think is what he's aiming for.

Mets fans, at this point if you win the World Series...it really wouldnt matter if both are gone and you re-tool. A ring solves alot of problems.

Win or lose, that's the Hot Stove League, and a different season. Which will be a lot of fun. So many possibilities and things to things to analyze, for us and obviously the FO.

Right now every single person there is focusing on winning this.... right now.

The media can be such a bunch of bottom feeding rodents.

Thankfully our leadership: TC and Sandy have handled them beautifully through this whole season

    Ha... I remember that well.

I was kickin' and screaming about that. I hate losing guys Knight....those scrappy tough guys. He was a leader too.

Murph is gonna be getting a lot more dough than Knight did tho. Whew

Why? Because he is a lefty bat? I know we have Refsnyder but he converted to a 2B from RF and is still in a infancy phase of becoming a player.
Unless we can get someone better, I would totally go after a guy who rarely strikes out. Yankees need base on balls guys.

he said Yankees have enough lefties and need a righty bat and they don't want an infielder who is poor defensively

Murphy is a big upgrade over Refsnyder. But not sure they will want to pay the price tag for him. They might just want to keep it in their organization. The Yankees seem to be going in that direction. And they've been talking for years now about cutting their payroll.

Imo Murph's value will be at 1B or 3B.

Depends on how and where he fits on a particular team tho.

He doesn't strike out, but he doesn't walk, fwiw.

I just can't see the Wilpons upgrading their long term salary structure. It's pretty obvious over the past five years that winning isn't their number one objective. Holding onto the team and basic survival is. They after huge criticism this season agreed to spend a little money to upgrade for a one half season fix. It only cost them about 10 million and 5 pitching prospects. And it worked because Sandy made it work. I think if smart they should concentrate on mid level to cheap replacements. Guys similar to Uribe and Johnson. Maybe a guy like Matt Reynolds will be ready. But I wouldn't as in the past depend on the organization for bats. For pitching, yes. If Murphy leaves one guy worth pursuing might be Kendricks if he doesn't re-sign with LAD.

Exactly. And thats why I would want him back. Realistically he's better at 3rd than he is at 2nd.

Im all for Flores or Herrera at 2nd next season but with Wright's injury concerns we would be screwed at 3rd if he were to go down and Murph wasnt here.

Id be more for getting rid of Duda and letting Murph play 1st. Kinda the ultimate utility guy type of role.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

But Wright's presence will be there for anther year prolly.

And I'm skeptical that they're gonna want to pay for Murph for that role. Which would be perfect for us.

Boy, getting this done this year will make all the conjecture a lot of fun,

and will put the FO in a great spot to set it up for the future.

If they went youth, speed, and defense I wouldn't mind losing anybody....

‏@michaelgbaron 21m21 minutes ago Matt Harvey’s right triceps is swollen, but still scheduled for Game 5 I hope this doesn't end up being a problem.

Mike does not know anything about any other team in MLB, how could he speak of Murphy?

Did you start to think that maybe the Jets could this season become the NFL version of the Mets.:)
