He had 9 snaps yesterday. That's absurd and it's not because he sucks or that he doesn't deserve more playing time, he just simply doesn't fit the defense. He's a lineman playing linebacker, that's not going to work out. He should be playing DL but he's stuck there behind guys like Sheldon, Mo, Leonard who are every down guys. Throw in Snacks as well. We're better off trading him to maybe get something in return that could help us. The only thing that might make this difficult is the fact that his value is at an all time low.

i think the guys in front of me covered it pretty well. but let me pile on for a second.

what exactly do you expect to get for this guy? he hasn't ever done anything special. id take a first down marker, maybe we could get one of those fancy new endzone pylons.

How about we trade him for a punter or a kicking tee?

Believe me he has value. But your points are well taken. Not sure this is the time to trade him. Unless Mac is floating the idea to teams with D-line injuries and who need somebody with his talent. I haven't been hearing rumors on this. He does provide us with depth. As for what we would get in return. He'd probably be looking for a second round pick or a starting player they like. Maybe another O-lineman. I'd say a tight end but not a Gailey priority.

You're nuts if you think or if Mac thinks Coples is worth a 2nd round pick.

Since they instituted the rookie salary cap structure in I believe at the end of 2010, the value of NFL draft picks have skyrocketed. The last legitimate player to be traded for a 2nd round pick was Vontae Davis, a legitimate top 5 corner in this league.

Marshall went for a 5th. I'd say we'd be lucky to get a 6th for Coples, an underachieving player whose a free agent at the end of the year.

Coples is a good player stuck in the wrong scheme. I would trade him for any young decent Olineman or Tight End.

The weight loss and move to linebacker killed any of Coples value. He would need to put some lbs back on and show some real value as a defensive end to get anything in trade and that's not going to happen.

Yep. Absolutely no trade value for this guy and his cap number next year makes it nearly impossible. Would like to see him full on switch to DL. We ran more 4-3 than 3-4 yesterday and he's just as good of fit at DE as Douzable if not much better. When the other 3 are Mo, Sheldon, and Williams Coples should be that guy.

Barkevious Mingo I read a couple days ago wants out of Cleveland. Basically the same type of guy/talent except he's a pure pass rusher. And considering Pettine drafted Coples maybe this could actually work. Other than that maybe Willie Young from the Bears but he's got almost no value. I'm sure there are plenty of other options.

If the Jets didn't have the guarantee extended to Coples next season he'd be a logical keep as depth on the DL while they traded Mo or Richardson. With the the guarantee it's a whole different story. I have no idea what the Jets do with Coples at this point. If he gets hurt and has to be IR'd what happens with that guarantee next year? Do the Jets get a chance to cut him on performance related concerns if he doesn't perform on the field in 2015 after an injury? Not sure.

Rex made a lot of picks in the 1st round and he picked up a lot of toys in the process. Some of them were going to be misfit toys in the end and Coples appears to be the glaring example in that category.

They would have to throw in Russell Wilson too or I wouldn't take that trade
