Seems like every team even In college have good punters but we haven't had a great punter since Tom Tupa

I believe the problems start with his angle kicks. He either shanks it or kicks low, and our coverage is not good to begin with either.

Quigley makes all the kicks....in practice

They've gotta get better during the bye

Special teams still sucks. Punt coverage is terrible. Showed a lot today. Jarvis Landry had a field day.

the jets need a punter who can kick off--quigley is weak on hang time and folk never gives you a touchback. Keep folk for placekicks but get a punter who can both punt AND sail the kickoff out of the end zone.

agree that stacy is way toooooooooooooooooooooo slow to return kicks. you need a guy with speed who can hit the seam and break it open.

Punt and kickoff coverage teams are terrible...many have offensive backups who have no business covering kicks. I dont mons kerly fielding punts as he is sure handed.

Ugh. We were crap and Landry made us pay every time. I almost wished Quigley punted out of bounds every time he kicked the ball. How is that punter from Portland State that Seattle picked up after the draft doing? Bowles will address this for sure with two weeks off.

It's a measurement of NET punt yardage.

So it subtracts from his yards every time the coverage team misses a bunch of tackles. Got it.

Yep. The idea is that a good punter is supposed to keep the ball in the air long enough for his coverage unit to make it down the field and be in position to stop the returner in his tracks. Of course, if you have a bad punt coverage team, your punting average is going to be poor. The stat should be thought of as a metric of assessment for the entire special teams, not just the punter. In other words, it's really a team statistic, not an individual statistic.

IMHO our specials are putrid. Tackling, getting downfield and punting. Except for Folk, but he missed one today as well.

An all around disaster....Poor punter, poor punt coverage, no hope in breaking one on kickoffs or punts. Only decent part is Folk

I like Walter Powell as a returner and we need to give a few punters off the street a workout.....How do we have terrible punters every damn year??

He keeps pinning returners against the sideline, effectively cornering them. Then the coverage team just lets the returners slip through. It's not like he's kicking in the middle of the field, giving them all the room in the world to work with.

Yeah, he corners them on occasion, but the more I watch the rest of the league play, the less doubt I have that he is a bottom 10 punter in the NFL. His hang-time usually seems horrible.

What's the timetable on Owusu? We need him back in the worst way for our KR.

I cringe every time zac stacy takes a kick out the back of the end zone to the 12.

Special teams were worse in the flesh than they have looked on TV. I actually miss the guy hiding in the end zone.

Quigley has direction but zero hang-time (see the Sproles TD which was allegedly a good punt according to commentators), tackling is terrible, KR too quick to call a fair catch and not at all elusive (Stacy, really?), really poor positional awareness from a lot of the group. One of the ST group was consistently out of position, I think McDougle, but I need to watch the highlights back to check.

Quigley must have compromising pics of Woody. There is no other explanation why this clown is still on the team after a complete overhaul of front office and CS. Any D1 college punter is better than him.

So much for Powell returning as the return man.
