As far as Fitz goes, this is where I'm at. I made my complaints when people were sucking Fitz's crank after the Indy game, but I never got too low on him. He is what he is, an average QB. Average quarterbacks have limited skill sets and are inconsistent. That's what makes them average. They help lose as many games as they win. That said, pulling Fitz now instead of the bye is too soon. I think Br4d was right when he said that you don't throw the other guy in the mix when half the offense is limping around the field. Let them rest during the bye and put Geno in, for better or worse, because Fitz ain't winning us a damn thing. He's a backup to any team that is serious about the QB position. Starting Geno may not win us a damn thing either, but this season was the next thing to a throwaway before it started. If neither of them work out, bring in someone else to compete with Petty next season and beyond, maybe keeping Fitz as a veteran presence.
Petty... reminds me of the movie (heartbreak ridge) "Just wait till the Swede gets here". The kid may be great, he may not. Sitting him may help, may not. Starting Geno or bringing him in at half time will give a better assessment of him, there's no need to wait until we lose a few more games. He'll either play better than Fitz or he won't.
Bowles should have the Benny Hill theme for the film session on the game. It was just frustrating as hell watching the level of bonehead play and poor tackling at times. Cro has never seen a back on the outside that he couldn't escort a bit further down the field by just falling down in front of him and waving his arms. That happened multiple times with Matthews yesterday.
In his press conference, Fitz said he had to be more patient. That was a fact. The Jets offense could have made a game of it, but Fitz made a critical error on that 3rd quarter interception when he targeted Devin Smith. That was a bad read, the third time he tried a long sideline pass to Smith and he was blanketed. If Fitz holds that one the Jets keep the drive alive and maybe settle for 3 but that puts them closer. When Fitz forces the issue he makes too many bad plays. He could have got picked at least 2 other times when he tried to force throws downfield. That being said, a few plays before that interception Fitz had that long pass to Marshall at the goalline. It was a great throw and a TD if not for the Pass Interference and the non-call by the refs on a blatant hold. So its not that Fitz cant make the throws, just he needs to be more patient and not force things. Despite the outcome, I still think Fitz as starter is the right call for the Jets. Even with not having Decker, no running game, pressure up the middle, and playing behind 24 points the Jets still could have won this game. Otherwise, look the Jets got Fitz for a 7th rounder. He is not a guy who can carry a team on his back. We knew that. He is a competent quarterback, that needs a running game and weapons to be successful.
lol this whole conversation will be dead in a few weeks. There's a reason why Geno was outplaying Fitz in training camp. He's nothing special and is very limited with the deep ball. Once Geno gets healthy, he'll outplay Fitz again in practice because Fitz is once again nothing special. The coaching staff will see that Geno can ACTUALLY get the ball to Devin Smith and stretch out the defense. Geno will get his chance again. It's inevitable and people need to embrace it.
It wasn't just Fitz yesterday, although he was a big part of it. He's consistently underthrowing his deep balls and trying to make throws he can't make. Marshall made a bone headed play and short armed a reception that ended up getting picked. With Fitz as our QB, our offense is limited and we become vertically challenged. At least with Geno teams have to account for his mobility and our offense won't be so vertically challenged. If we lose next week and Fitz plays bad, Bowles has to seriously consider starting Geno.
Yes Fitzs warts came out big time yesterday & I mean big time. Looking ahead I suspect our play this off season will be to trade Wilkerson for either a draft pick that will get us a franchise QB or trade Wilkerson straight up for a franchise QB because Wilkerson is way, way over valuing himself IMHO
Why do we have to blame every loss on just one person or unit anyway? I think several players/units can be blamed including and not limited to Fitzpatrick. Defense missed a ton of tackles; Davis had at least 5 of them. Special teams gave up a TD. Marshall the smelliest of brain farts ever...etc....etc.
Really??? I don't think Devin was ever "wide open" on any of his go routes. If he was, those underthrown flutters Fitz was throwing would have been caught. It looked like the Eagles were very prepared for that and only a pretty good to perfect throw would have beat their coverage. Conversely, Devin was "wide open" on his intermediate routes (i.e., outs, comebacks, crosses...etc.) because the CBs were so scared of getting beat over the top.
I think he's talking about the play before one of his TD passes where he completely missed a wide open Smith coming across the back of the EZ.
We knew what Fitz was coming into the season. He's a average qb at best. I'm not saying to pull the plug on him but you can't act surprised at the result you get when a limited qb attempts 60 passes in one game. If he continues to struggle next week against the dolphins there will be some calls to play Geno after the bye. As horrible as Geno can be at times, he provides more upside with his legs and has the ability to push the ball down the field. Now if we could combine genos arm and legs with Fitz's brain we might have something.
Ah...OK...at the Jets bar I was at there were a lot of people complaining about the deep throws saying Devin was wide open on them. I guess I thought the poster was saying the samething. Yeah Fitz did completely miss that one.
I wouldn't say he was wide open on the missed deep passes but he had a couple of steps which would have been more than enough had the ball been put out there for him to run under. Hopefully just a matter of timing.
Your argument is that Fitz is nothing special? Well, your boy Geno is even less special. That game would've been 24-3 if Geno was playing. Geno can get Smith the ball? He was smothered on every single deep route he ran. Under thrown or not, he gained no separation.
A ball laid out in front of smith also brings dpi into play. Where fitz puts the ball it has no chance of anything good
If you offered me 2-1 going into the overseas game........I'd of bitten your hand off. It hurts that we weren't too far from going 3-0 but considering all the pieces we had missing and are acknowledged lack of depth (Idzik draft skills) i don't think we can' be too surprised that we will have games like this from time to time.
Does nobody realize that fitzpatrick kills the run game just by being there? Does nobody see that a qb who cant complete a pass over 10 yards allows a defense to put 8 in the box all day? Its not a question of him making mistakes.....not that his 3 ints isnt typical...but he is severely limited. Who wants a tic tac limited offense? Would u rather a limited qb throwing picks and stunting the run game because the defense can cheat all day.. ..or a normal qb making mistakes but keeping the d honest, spreading the field and playing in a normaly powered offense?
