Let's talk about what a unique defensive genius Rex Ryan is.

Rex beat Indy, but now, so did we. And in Indy's house.

More importantly. We are 2-0 and tied for 1st. Rex's team is 1-1.

    Thank you Rex Ryan!

It only took 6 years of your buffoonery, including drafting 2 QBs, losing a defensive coordinator, firing three offensive coordinators and two general managers, but finally the Jets look like a confident, competent team.

Wait, so, "thank you" for the guy we hired after we fired you?

Thanks to Rex Ryan and his PR/media machinery almost everybody was scapegoated before he was fired. The result is truly fresh start for the NY Jets after years of inconsistency and excuses that somehow co-existed with non-stop braggadocio.

The result is the 2014 4-12 NY Jets have a whole new coaching staff, management, offense, defense and culture that is off to a solid start.

    True.

There's just something about all the staff firings over the years that somehow make it seem like a thorough cleansing now that Rex is gone.

It's like a clogged toilet that you've flushed several times but still remains clogged. Then one final flush breaks everything free and sends all the crap down the bowl with unprecedented fury.

Well usually the GM and the coach doesn't get fired at the same time so that's probably why it now seems like more of a culture change. The last time we had both a new coach and a new GM was Tangini

Well he's the talk of the town in Buffalo isn't he (which isn't hard because there's nothing to do there but go to Niagara Falls). But I thought you'd win yesterday and while I didn't see the game I think naming Tyrod Taylor as starting Qb was a gutsy and smart move by Rex and the org and in the long run you have a good chance at success. Plus if Taylor regresses you still have Cassell who like Fitz is an experienced vet who has won games in the NFL. The problem with Rex imo will be penalties and blown coverages. With his Jets teams there were always communication problems on both sides of the ball. And his D schemes which are supposed to be kind of a shock and awe and unpredictable, good OCs could often figure out and exploit. With the talent we had on D they would often make big plays but were vulnerable and gave up big plays.

We'll see on Taylor. I don't care about the penalties. New England only had 3 fewer penalties on Sunday for 29 fewer yards, that's it. The most penalized team in the league last year was Seattle who went to the Super Bowl. The # 2 team in penalties was New England, who won the super bowl. The #3 team was Indy, who went to the conference championship game. I think playing well trumps penalties, and we need to play better first. We've been good about not giving up big plays so far, but its only 2 games in. Big game against Miami this week, as we've had a very tough first 3 games.

Well, what killed Rex's Ds was giving up big plays esp on 3rd down. His D would stuff the run and keep the opponent to a 3rd and long and you'd think we had it made. And then give up big plays on 3rd and long. This happened a lot. The penalties on a marginal team were game changers. I think you have the D to win and I see you matching up with Miami pretty well. Although they are not an easy team to beat. I think they play above their talent level. They lost to the Jags who are not that bad and Bortles is showing a lot of improvement.

Hey, y'know most of us like/liked Rex, we just got bored of his schtick. Take a look around, this is what the Bills messageboards will be saying in 4 years time.

As the season goes on and the excuses mount, try to remember that the 2014 Bills were a 9-7 team that blew out Rex Ryan by 20+ points twice, once after a massive blizzard that required the game being relocated to Detroit.

But is Rex Ryan a nice guy? Shoot! Absolutely. He'd go out there right now and play the Pats again. He's not afraid of anybody. He believes the Bills are the best team in the NFL. He honestly believes that. Look, is he going to lose some games? You're darn right. Maybe 12 or so blowout losses where he gets his a$$ kicked. But he's not going to change who he is. He's going to tell you about the teams defensive stats. And you know what? They are going to be good some times. Even if the team gets their a$$es kicked. But he'll make a decision on quarterback when he's ready to and not when you want him to. And the guy he picks is going to give the team the best chance to win. He honestly believes that. Now let's go get a god damn snack.

wow- sounds familiar. someone is chugging the Koolaid as that's page 1 of the Rex apologist handbook. just because some teams with amazing QB and talent can win by playing undisciplined football doesn't mean its a roadmap for success.

Stupid undisciplined penalties directly cost buffalo at least 10 points sunday. They lost by 8.

He was our coach for the last 6 years and now coaches a division rival. You're surprised people talk about him?

    That's special.

There's an entire thread dedicated to Chip Kelly. This is a Jet forum but it's a football forum. Last time I checked Rex Ryan is a football coach in the NFL. Aside from the fact, as posted above, he is a division rival coach and an ex coach of ours

We like talking about Rex, Sanchez, and every other bum that let our franchise down.

It is what it is, we talk about their impact elsewhere because it is fact that these guys are not what they are hyped to be after they were fired or let go.
