Great article on why our best financial option with Kerley is to trade him ASAP, even for a 7th. We would save $1.4mil this year and $2.2mil next. Only good reason to keep him is PR at this point and really there has to be someone else on our roster that can catch and fall down. http://www.ganggreennation.com/2015/9/14/9323433/ny-jets-trading-kerley
How is he getting a raw deal? Who should he be definitely starting over? I like Kerley as a player (I always have), but "starter" is a relative term. On last year's team, he was unquestionably a starter. But, with respect to the rest of the WRs on THIS year's team, he just isn't. The fact of the matter is, this team is suddenly equipped with very good WR depth. Kerley, a talented but undersized slot receiver, is a natural casualty of that depth.
Kerley is a starter I don't get why he didn't even get a chance. Like others have said if we're not giving him one, might as well trade him
There is no mystery in the NFL.....if the coaching staff thought Kerley was a top WR then he would he starting. The problem with Kerley is he has no upside anymore.....he is what he is.He was great when there was no competition when Clyde Gates and Chaz Shillenz ,and Stephen Hill were on the roster.Kerleys getting outplayed by his competition at practice and its not something he is used to.Man up Kerley,I think he will get a lot of time at WR in the Colts game
I like Jeremy Faircatch, I always thought he'd blossom into a Dollar Tree Wes Welker. Having said that it's now apparent that he's not a good fit in this offense and with Geno still nursing a broken jaw, he doesn't need his go-to guy.
Eh he's not a top two receiver on a good team. He's a top two receiver on the Jets/Raiders type teams of the last couple years, that's about it. He may be a #3 slot guy on quite a few teams but I don't really consider that a starter even if a lot of teams start three WR's frequently. Kerley was already bumped down the day of the draft when they took Devin Smith. Then Owusu stepped up in camp and made it even harder. But honestly if Kerley was anything special he would have stood out more when we had no NFL receivers and he's really a #3 guy who was our #1.
Jeremy Kerley - "I see myself as a starter" Yea, and I see myself as a genius super hero with a porn star package, but sometimes we don't get everything we want. Frankly, in mye experience yoo usually only gett 1 in 3 and I ain't no super heero.
He was a good soldier when called upon last year - well. That last year's offense was nothing short of shitstorm doesn't say much about his ability, but it does say about his mental make up. While I don't agree that he should start for this team, I think Jets can find some meaningful role on the other hand.
yeah don't see how anybody can shit on his contract. a 2.6 or 3.1 million dollar cap hit for a veteran WR with Kerley's resume is more than appropriate and the guarantees are more than fair. Idzik made mistakes, JK's extension wasn't one of them… in a vacuum anyway. now, wether he's used well here or not is a different story. Perhaps Gailey finds more value in taller guys inside or rangier targets, so JK's value decreases. thats not the case in every O, put him in NE watch him soar for instance, but his usefulness here might be declining despite his past reliability. I'm staying tuned as I have no clue what his role is gonna be week to week. All I know is he's a starting receiver and an excellent round out option to Decker and Marshall, and make no mistake he's the best on the team besides those two.
thats not saying much. and him being a starter is a big reason our offense was so bad that year. i like him, he plays hard... but honestly he just hanst contributed all that much. on offense or special teams
For most players NFL is a short lived career 4-6years. Always younger and faster knocking at the door. Kerley must make the most out of every opportunity. On a side note, I am really happy to see Powell getting a chance. I felt like the last coaching staff largely looked over a solid NFL running back.
I'm with ya on Powell JV. We're stating the obvious by saying the last CS overlooked talent on offense so none of this new found talent should come as much of a surprise.
Its called being professional. I'll take that guy everyday and twice on Sundays!! Just a huge breeze of fresh air around this team now (Geno's jaw not withstanding)... I like it!
I think we're starting to see part of the reason he's on the bench in the first place. I've always liked Kerley, but if you have to tell the press you're a starter, you really aren't. That said... I love to bash people when they say things like "He'll sign with the Pats and give us headaches for years", in this case, if Kerley signs with the Pats after the Jets release him, he will definitely give us huge headaches. He'd be perfect for their offense and would probably replace Amendola in a minute. All they'd have to do is roll him around on the endzone chalk to make him white. My Tawmmy loves to throw to the whiteys.
Dude had an off year, he's still a proven player. What has Owusu done in this league that makes him that much better than Kerley that he should get more snaps over him? If it's a matter of them not thinking Kerley is a good fit for their offense due to his size, then they knew this months ago and should've just traded or released him. Kerley deserves a little better than this.
Owusu has game-breaking speed and this offense is a legitimate deep threat away from having a perfect compliment of wide-receivers. The coaching staff probably believes (as I do) that Owusu (and/or a healthy Devin Smith) compliments Decker/Marshall better than Kerley does. Kerley is likely mainly still on the roster due to his sure-handedness as a PR.
I have been hoping kerley would bounce back, he has made some big plays for us. With Marshall and Decker, Kerley has to win the slot. It's not looking good for Kerley here (Smith and Owusu out repping him). He probably would do well with the Pats, Edelman type over the middle player, squishy football to catch. NE has been running a lot of TE's near the goal line and Kerley had drops last season. I doubt the Pats are too interested in Kerley. We should do something with Kerley though....I feel a trade coming in his future.
