Is it Just me or does the Jets D getting softer and softer every week? Im happy we didnt allow K Jones to run over 100 but we still gave out alot of rushing yards even with Detriot trailing. Our DBs are getting burnt most of the time and we cant pass rush for S**T.
I couldn't agree with you more. It boils down to pressure, WE MUST PRESSURE THE QB!! It's that simple, good teams do it and do it with consistency.
The pass-rush was pathetic... Seeing it on TV is bad, but seeing it live and Kitna being able to tap-dance and take a nap while in the pocket is pathetic.
For the first time this year I disagree, i was very pleased w/ our defensive effort yesterday. Outside of the 1 long run jones didn't do much on the ground and we actually got some pressure on the QB. we still aren't good defensively but for the first time all year i saw some progress.
I think we did a pretty good job yesterday compared to earlier efforts. The one play that seemed to get us yesterday was the screen. Nobody could fight through a block to make a tackle.
IMO, the defense showed improvement. Two big picks, the one by Rhodes was incredible, Robertson created pressure, and Jones never got rolling.
After Rhodes, who on our D has to be game planned for? The one good sign I saw yesterday was Barton looked like he was playing with a little mean for the first time since 04.
Justin Miller. Throw it deep near the goal line a couple times, and he'll draw a flag. You cant leave a guaranteed first and goal out of the game planning session.
barton was all over the field yesterday, he did look like '04 barton. I am happy we finally saw some progress, i believe we have more than enough talent to have a top 15 D and finally we took a step forward yesterday.
What progress? The defense was just as bad as ever yesterday, once again unable to make a 4th quarter stop. Detroit scored the last 3 times they touched the ball, a short FG and 2 TDs. If Detroit's D wasn't slighty worse then the Jets(maybe they're not the absolute worst in the league, after all) they probably tie the game up.
I think part of Vilma's problem is that he is being game planned for. Teams know he is one of our only playmakers and they make sure they get a big OL on him.
i think we slowed down jones outside of that 25 yd run, we finally got some pressure on kitna and forced him into some bad throws and had him running alot(he did a good job picking up some 1st downs on the ground though). Yeah they let them score some poitns late but it didn't look like the usual soft D we had seen in our other 3 wins. Again i didn't say they were great just that i finally saw them show me something. That was our best defensive game of the year.
The defense has shown improvement over the last 2 games IMO. But in each game, they completely broke down in the 4th quarter and made the effort look horrible in the box score. 2 TDs allowed in the 4th quarter each game, which is more points than they'd allowed throughout the first 3 quarters both weeks. Joey Harrington had over 200 of his 266 pass yards in the 4th quarter and I'm pretty sure Kitna did similar. It's that 3 man rush they need to get rid of. They need to generate more pressure to stop the pass and only rushing 3 isn't going to do that.
Last 3 drives: 12 plays 83 yards 6:08 (FG) 12 plays 79 yards 5:11 (TD) 11 plays 67 yards 2:29 (TD) Last 3 drives last week: 12 plays 81 yards 4:26 (TD) 11 plays 74 yards 3:46 (TD) 7 plays 57 yards 1:45 (Missed FG) Not really seeing the improvement, myself.
The defense was still horrible, but there was an improvement. We don't have a top 15 defense IMO, but we finally got a few turnovers and a sack. It's a new scheme and eventually they will figure it out.
baby steps- we slowed down the run, we got pressure on the QB, Robertson had a good game, barton and Vilma reappeared and rhodes was rhodes.
I'm not happy with the 4th quarter's the past two weeks, but they definately employed a different defense in the 4th(a prevent of sorts) while holding leads in both games.
