I was at the game, ten rows up in the endzone on the side of the field it happened in. He laid for a while, tried to get up, stumbled forward and landed flat on his face. It was unbelievably scary. Can't send enough prayers out for this kid, and it has nothing to do with football.
a lot of guys jam their necks and lose feeling for awhile, but they come back. Hope that is the case here. recovery is the main thing, though
Was reading somewhere else that sometimes with spinal injuries the nerves aren't damaged until the person tries to move, at which point the injured bones damage the nerves. That's why they immobilize anyone suspected of having a spinal injury. Hoping that's not the case here.
That may be a good sign, that he was able to get up for a bit. I was at the game of the Dennis Byrd injury He collided with Scott Mersereau's shoulder pads. Never budged an inch and had to be carried off. I was also at the game where he was honored and walked up the field from the tunnel. Very emotional moment.
My age will show on this one but growing up as a little kid I was Cowboy fan and I remember Hollywood Henderson from the Cowboys broke his neck twice. I read his book and he said one time when he broke it he was still running around trying not to get hit! Prayers for Mauldin, may GOD bless him.
yikes, with the reports coming out that he got up for a step and then fell flat on his face that sounds like it could be the case here.....what a horrible tragedy that would be
Mehta just tweeted he's awake and has feeling in all extremities Amazing news I was at the game and saw him initially dinged up....then watched him take a few steps and just collapse and face plant I've never seen so many guys all around a player down like that....I've been really scared for him since seeing it live
Jets rookie OLB Lorenzo Mauldin is awake & has feeling in all his extremities, I'm told. Will stay in hospital overnight #nyj Good news
My first thought seeing it live was a heart problem or something....then I saw some medical guys rushing in with different equipment and it looked about as serious as you could imagine since they were all around him for so long I've never seen a guy fall and collapse after getting up Just extremely happy the initial news is positive
According to a buddy of mine that is a cop in Eliabeth, Mauldins ambulance had a police escort to the hospital due to a spinal cord injury.
