this would be a big injury for Cleveland. We saw what heppened to Detroit without their star at DT.

Baxter's a star on cleveland. A big day for Chad and Coles if Gary's out.

    NFL.com wire reports

CLEVELAND (Oct. 22, 2006) -- Browns cornerback Gary Baxter injured his left knee late in the second quarter of the team's game against the Denver Broncos while trying to break up a pass deep in Cleveland territory.

Baxter, who missed 11 games last season with a torn chest muscle and Cleveland's previous three this year with a similar injury, was backpedalling when he appeared to hurt himself while planting to jump.

Baxter immediately grabbed his knee and Broncos wide receiver Javon Walker signaled to Cleveland's sideline for help. The 27-year-old Baxter, who signed with Cleveland as a free agent before last season, was lifted onto a cart and driven off the field to the locker room.

There was no immediate word on his condition, but judging by his inability to put any weight on the knee, Baxter could be sidelined for an extended period.

Cleveland's secondary has been ravaged by injuries all season. Cornerback Leigh Bodden missed his second straight game with an ankle injury.

Baxter would not be near as big of a loss as Rogers was.

Not much would change if he played in my opinion.

A big day from Pennington,Coles,Cotchery and the bunch should be expected.

    Not just this year.

    A full calendar year.

He may not return until the middle of next season.

It sucks to see that happen to a player like him.

ESPN.com reports Cleveland Browns CB Gary Baxter (knees) tore the patellar tendons in both knees during the Browns loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 7. Baxter will undergo surgery Tuesday, Oct. 24, and he is expected to miss at least one calendar year, according to Browns head coach Romeo Crennel. Crennel also said it was the worst injury he has seen in his more than 35 years of coaching

Both Knees. That is awful. He was injured most of last year to. The Browns cannot catch a break. I hope Baxter can come back after that even if ts 2008. That is one fo the worst injuries I have ever heard of. Blowing oiut both knees in one play. Thats amazingly bad luck. You have to feel bad for the poor guy and for the Cleveland fans.

Joe Klecko had that operation. In his case it limited his movement after the surgery

damaging both knees? That's a terrible injury and I hope he'll be able to come back next year. The Browns really are a cursed franchise.

Yea i agree, it looked as if he hurt his knees jumping up to make a play on the ball. You never know when your knees can just blow up on you.

Sounds like a nasty injury, I wish him the best. As for how this affects them, I don't think it is too significant; hasn't he already missed half of their games this year and most of the season last year. I think they're pretty used to not playing with him at this point...

Awful injury. First Leigh Bodden now Baxter for the Browns, pretty unfortunate as both are very good corners and would've been good matchups with Coles-Cotch.

guy missed most of last year and half of the games this year -- i don't see how a big ticket item that hasn't played much will have an impact not playing again

feel bad for him - nasty injury

I'm sure that type of surgery has improved dramatically since 1983.
