Fits doesn't have to be Brady in order to keep the job, he just has to be Pennington. And that's totally in his wheel house...
If he expects to keep Geno on the sidelines after he returns, he will need to show something more than he's shown in his career. For a guy his age, that's a tall order. Being Pennington won't cut it, either. A weak armed QB will be eaten alive. Another Vinnie would have been a better comparison.
Everyone keeps mentioning how bad our O-Line is, but then says Geno will be back if Fitz is bad. How can he possible succeed behind these guys? Maybe a QB with smarts and the ability to move like Russel Wilson could have a good season here, but to expect Fitz to and also be ready to blame him for poor play is just short sighted.
That's too challenging for him. He should be the guy who responds to "CLEAN UP IN AISLE 3!" Unfortunately, his fate will be decided by people who make a lot more money than we do. At this point, after the management and coaching changes, plus the good TC he had, I'm willing to see what he brings in Year 3. Especially given that there are no good alternatives. I just hope if he starts out as poorly as he did in Year 2, they don't wait to pull the plug on him. Let's not forget the bottom line are W's. If he screws up a few times a game, which he probably will, as long as he manages the offense well enough to preserve wins, I'm good with him.
Maybe it's me, but I haven't noticed too many people complaining about the O-line so far this preseason. Granted the first team O-line hasn't been out there that often, but when it has, I see a line that's opening good running lanes and giving the QB time to throw.
