I have been doing some draft research lately and have discovered some unfortunate realizations. I went back to 2008 and evaluated some of our first round picks until this year. Being a Jet fan my whole life and watching every draft of recent memory, some of these picks just make me straight up regret them. Let's get started... In the draft of 2008 we selected Vernon Gholston in the first round. Players passed on that year: Jordy Nelson Jamal Charles Desean Jackson In the draft of 2009 we selected Marc Sanchez in the first round. Players passed on that year: Vontae Davis Clay Mathews Lesean McCoy In the draft of 2010 we selected Kyle Wilson in the first round. Players passed on that year: Rob Gronkowski Navarro Bowman Jimmy Graham In the draft on 2011 we selected Mo Wilkerson in the first round (great pick) Players passed on that year: Randall Cobb Justin Houston Demarco Murray In the draft of 2012 we selected Quinton Coples in the first round. Players passed on that year: Alshon Jeffery Bobby Wagner Russell Wilson In the draft of 2013 we selected Dee Milliner in the first round. Players passed on that year: Kyle Long Eddy Lacy Leveon Bell In the draft of 2014 we selected Calvin Pryor in the first round. Players passed on that year: Kelvin Benjamin Derek Carr Teddy Bridgewater In the draft of 2015 we selected Leonard Williams in the first round. Notable players passed on this year: Too early too tell talent wise There you have it. These were our draft selections since 2008. As jets fans do you like our draft history? Thoughts?
You're suggesting that the AFC representative from New York hasn't drafted altogether well in recent years? Interesting thesis. And how do you feel about water, wet or not wet?
In 08 and 09 our pick was too high to consider those guys. In 2012 we could've had Jeffrey over Stephen Hill in the 2nd round.
Don't forget in 2000 when we picked Chad Pennington and 3 other players in the first round instead of Tom Brady. That was a no brainer.
What would be great is if this thread was moved to the draft forum and was forgotten about until January... okay, probably November.
The Redskins could have got Kuechly, Alshon Jeffrey, and Russell Wilson the year they traded up for RG III, and kept their first round picks the next 2 years. You can do this with every team in the NFL. This topic is so stupid.
Of note is that out of the above list, only ONE offensive player chosen in the first round.. Perhaps a lesson is in there someplace..
Congrats to us for getting it right in 2011, 2007 Revis, 2006 Mangold, and unless something bizarre happens, 2015.
All cause we drafted Geno in the 2nd round in 2013... Never understood it. That pick should have been Brandin Cooks (my WR pick), or a QB like Bridgewater or even Carr. As much I did like the Pryor pick at the time, I don't think a safety like him is meant for today's game. And even if Geno did pan out along with Bridgewater, then you trade the worse one and get some good players/draft picks back.
I think passing on Bridgewater has the potential to go down as one of those all-time mistakes. Once Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rivers and Big Ben are out of the league in a couple years, Bridgewater could be a top 5 QB if he stays on track.
They swung for the fences when they traded up for Sanchez. That would've gone down as one of the greatest draft day trades ever if ... Eh one of these days they'll get it right and get lucky.
I know, I kept thinking we had swindled Mangina and Cleveland. I was so excited and then 2012 happened. The Mayans were right.
the only thing that has really killed me besides Idzik's entire draft, is us not having Teddy Bridgewater. I knew Idzik wasn't going to draft Teddy all cause of Geno catpiss Smith
