look at it this way.....we saved $32M while Revis rehabbed his knee AND we got Sheldon out of the deal. Idzik was a f'n genious.
He's just covering his own ass. Revis is an elite player, you pay elite players. We've done that before, we did it later on (now), we should have done it then. There's no way Revis after tearing his ACL would go up to our FO and ask for crazy amounts of money, I don't buy it. I'll have to watch his "A football life" episode again, I'm sure they covered this. And of course the Bucs paid him, they wanted him bad. Idzik didn't.
I agree with you. Revis was (2013/2014) an elite player and deserved to get paid. $10M is getting paid big time. $12M is obscene. $14M is unheard of. $16M is holding your franchise hostage, saying "I'm more important than the future of my team". "Pay me and the Jets be damned".
One thing I've never really got about the argument that Revis only cares about every last dollar: if that's the case, then why would he want to play in New Jersey, one of the highest income tax states, and on top of that live in New York, so have to pay crazy high taxes there too? He could have asked for less, gone to a Florida or Texas team, and ended up making more.
I didn't have a problem with Idzik trading Revis coming off the injury. However I was pissed he wouldn't pick up the phone when his crew came calling prior to 2014, after showing he could still play good football in Tampa. That would've been the greatest hosing via trade of all time if he brought him back and got Sheldon out of it. Instead he decided to fucking sign Dimitri Patterson. Lmao
its the status of being the highest paid player he wants. he said it when aso had his contract, if aso got 16mil revis wanted 16mil an a dollar
That's funny, several general managers turned away from the job due to the fact that they were directed by ownership on getting rid of a certain player. Hmmm..
I think they probably didn't want the job because of having to retain the previous coach, previous scouting staff, having no QB, and having awful cap space.
We traded a 27 year old Revis for Sheldon Richardson and a 29 year old Revis. I don't agree with much Idzik did (we probably wouldn't have even gotten Revis back if we didn't fire him) but that trade looks so good now.
What team in those states were offering him even within $10 million of what us or the Patriots were willing to give him?
