That was the Giants record during Tittle's first 3 seasons with New York - there was no mention of Tittle's overall W-L record with the Giants. No need to move the goalposts. Who said anybody claimed he wasn't? Nobody. Tilting at goalposts?.... Oh, was you who supposedly posted that about Tittle? Well, if that's the case then no, you did not say that. What you actually said--and I quote--was that those guys (referring to Y.A.) barely played w/ the Giants. Again, moving the goalposts..... Brett Ratliff barely played with the Jets. Bubby Briser barely played with the Jets. Y.A. Tittle led the Giants to THREE CONSECUTIVE N.F.L. CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES in his four years with the club and as previously stated, that is a one heck of an accomplishment for a guy who "barely played" with the NYG.
where did I move the goalposts? it seems as if you are doing so by posting wrong information and leaving out key points. his record through 3 seasons w/ NYG was 31-5-1, also great but if you are going to post it then get it right and then you can add what he did in the 3 title games he played in w/ them. Tittle played 17 years in pro football, 4 w/ the Giants, that can be considered "barely". awesome job taking them to 3 title games(in the 3 years before he got there they made 2 and actually had chances to win each one). Either way I never bashed the man, I simply said he didn't play w/ the Giants long enough to be considered greatest in NYG history. the one "moving the goalposts" is also the one deflecting from the main point of the argument. By calling them the "football Giants" makes me wonder if you are a Giant fan?
You don't establish the narrative, not here anyway. Try finhaven or some 'other' board. bashing: again, who said anybody was bashing Tittle? Are you that dense that I have to address this non-existent issue repeatedly let alone repeatedly? "Football Giants" is a long-standing term to describe the men of Mara. I make you 'wonder' eh? That's nice, I suppose. Thanks for being a fan. On the other hand, by calling them "the worst fanbase in all of sports" would more than suggest you're anything but a Jet fan .......... not that I wonder, or even care......
stats always tell part of the story and not the whole story. to those backing Joe all that matters is pass yardage or yds per completion. they point to 4,000 yds as evidence of his greatness and they leave out all the INTs that cost us a div title that year. Joe was about more than stats on a piece of paper(or computer screen), I don't ever try to say Joe sucked. I just think his career was overrated and I think my argument has been a very good one and it's funny watching these guys scramble to offer new excuses. There is one person here whop provided the best argument for Joe through the years- I think it was Joe willie White Shoes. Unfortunately whenever this comes up he just bashes me rather than present some of the good points he had in the past. as much as I love to argue, I love to learn. I wasn't around in the 60s and 70s to watch Joe play. I love learning new things about him but instead I get recycled "you had to see him play" and "4,ooo yds!" arguments rather than good info to help all of us learn. stop deflecting please. you tried to deflect from the Joe argument by brining up Tittle and when your info wasn't as good as you thought now you are coming after me. why do you keep brining it up? is your point Tittle was a long time Giant? what is the point? No Jet fan calls the Giants "the football Giants". I know where it comes from. the "baseball Giants" left a long time ago, before Joe ever played a game for us so there' s no need to refer to them as the "football Giants".
To argue JWN's greatness based on stats is silly. I wrote earlier in this thread that Namath's "on field play" was not enough to get him in the Hall. I was wrong. It was all about how he played the game.
My wife is a "Baseball Giants" fan (I've tried to fix this, to no avail). We refer to the football version as "Football Giants" as a derogatory term.
I got a buddy at work who's a SF Giants fan. He bugs the shit out of me...but not just because of that.
haha V-i-a-g-r-a should hire Namath to pitch their Whiskey Dick commercials. Namath holding up a pill botle: "I wish they had these when I was a playah" edit: Via-agra is a banned word on TGG hahahahaha I had to put dashed in it....wtf?
" Deflect from Joe by bringing up Tittle?" Er no ......... you were simply called you on that assinine assertion that Tittle "barely played" here. You are the one deflecting here. Further, YOU were the one who kept asking "when did I bash Tittle?" when it was pointed out to you that no accused you of saying it, that it was a non-issue. I dont know if your mind's playing tricks on you but whatever, you got hung up and repeatedly asked that "when did I bash?..." question which I tried to point out to you that it was pure invention in the first place. Why is this not sinking in?..... "No Jet fan calls the Giants the 'football Giants'?" .......Oh, I see, and exactly who decided that? You? Seriously.... *smirk* I'm out, I got an appointment. Later gator.
Lol. Jets fans don't talk like that? HahaHa That moniker stuck to the Giants looooong after the baseball Giants left town, and was pretty much common. I believe the Giants still use the whole phrase but I might be mistaken. I guess that was before your time and not in your enclycopedia.
I've always thought stats was a big part of getting into HOF. If he got into it because of SB 3 win ok I can live with that. But when people bring up his 4000 yard season and how much better he would had been if not for injuiries. I'm sorry I don't buy those reasons. We can also look at that he may have thrown more ints then TD's then he has now. It can go both ways.
There's no "both ways". He's in the Hall of Fame. He's the only Jet qb to win a Super Bowl. He commanded the team and excited the fans like no other player before or since. Why piss on that?
I'm not pissing on anything. I understand all that I really do,but IMO I don't think he put up the #'s to be in HOF. Like I said I just can't get pass the int's to TD's.
Well...maybe not. http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...Practice/3cffbdbf-9ca8-4c2c-9e41-a2f09d32aa4d
There really is no debate Joe is in the Hall period. The powers that be that vote thought his stats accomplishment etc warranted the hall end of story. As a Jet fan to argue he should not be in I would have to question your fandom.
