Wish it could be true. But two seasons in a row he's good the last quarter of the season after being terrible in many of the earlier games. League low stats terrible. One thing in Geno's favor though. The final straw last year was that Buffalo game when he got pulled early after completely falling apart. This was his worst game http://nypost.com/2014/10/26/bills-trash-geno-after-rout-we-were-bummed-he-was-pulled/ and many of us have judged him on that game. He played well when he returned.
"And there are guys like Geno, just trying to improve to "acceptable." Smith is a slowwww learner and is on his 3rd OC in three years. Yes, he showed flashes of good play among a season of bad play. One game does not make a player. Anyone remember Browning Nagle in 1992? He had a great game his 1st NFL start (9/6/1992)and we all though we would be set at QB. Yep, we were set to draft another QB. I said from the start, even before we drafted him that he was a system QB with inflated numbers and we needed to pick someone else, anyone would be better. The worst starting QB in the NFL the past two seasons has yet to prove me wrong. I am so stoked about this team, but with Smith at QB, even the #1 Defense is not enough. Hopefully the CS starts Fitz week one.
He may be on his 3rd OC in three years but this one runs a system close to what he played in at WVU. I would expect Geno to pick this up a whole lot quicker than he tried to pick up the WCO.
I think they keep him even if he isn't the starter for the duration of his rookie contract. For that money they probably couldn't find a better backup Qb.
"Tebow is faster than Brees, taller than Brees and has an arm that is equal to Brees. Tebow will not be drafted in the top 15 picks and maybe, just maybe not in the first round but with such a HUGE drop off of college QB talent after him can we afford to pass of him. The last two years we wants a college QB but felt it would be a reach to get our guy at our pick so we tried two years in a row to get them later in the first round and missed out on both Cutler and Flacco. I would rather us draft him than get a stop gap veteran like Garcia or Collins." http://forums.theganggreen.com/threads/after-much-thought-tim-tebow-could-drew-brees.40985/
It's never going to click for him. He is Sanchez version 2.0. I have given up on fixing players. You either have it or you don't. Geno just doesn't have it. He had a perfect rating when it didn't matter. Week 17 was basically a scrimmage.
Ya but for Geno that's a milestone, 2'years from now when he's out of the league, that will be his legend
I just hope that Bowles is the guy we think he is. A coach who won't tolerate stupid mistakes and mediocrity.
I'm by no means a Geno Smith fanboy. However, I think he can turn into a good qb in the NFL. He's ahead of Sanchez was at this point in his career. Should we wait for that to happen? It all depends on who becomes available in the draft and free agency.
Smith taking a leap this year? Many Jet fans waiting 46 years for a SB are ready to take a leap. We have many good players. Bowles should only field the best products if he wants to win now and make franchise respectable.
Rereading the Post article about the Bills ribbing on Geno just made me realize how awful our QB situation was. Not only was Geno not in rythm, but stared down receivers all the while Rex the oaf thinks they had such amazing practices week after week. This will be the year that we're either gonna find out if its a "Cant do or won't do" situation with Geno. If its been a true lack of coaching with this kid, then IMO he has the physical tools to be at least average in this league. If its a wont do, then he will be out of the NFL quickly.
