He was a first year starting QB of course there's plenty of room for improvement. Finishing over .500 on a horrid team, winning the AFC West would be considered a pretty good first year for any first year starting QB not named Tebow. Elway is a former QB and current GM he's part of the NFL establishment that views the QB position as THIS is the way it's supposed to be played NOT that way. I have no proof but that's how I feel. Does Chip Kelly have the guts to go against the NFL establishment and unleash Tebowmania upon us all once again? We're gonna find out. I hope he does.
If the QB known as Buttfumbles is starting for Philly when the Jets play the Eagles in 2015 the Jets will beat the Eagles for the first time ever.
I think 2011 was his second season. But I agree what you're saying about Elway hating his game. I think there was a lot of stuff behind the scenes too. Not with Tim but with his fans. They were making a lot of demands saying Tebow had to play, etc. Fox and Elway couldn't wait to get rid of him. And then they got Peyton and it was a no-brainer. Plus it's true his throwing and passing stats were bottom of the league. He did win games and that's what counts. And he gave the Jets a better chance to win in 2012 than Sanchez who was horrible.
I hope he gets the chance to play and prove to the few wackos and/or ball lickers that are left out there (and in this thread apparently) that he is one terrible NFL QB. he wasn't a better option than Sanchez in 2012 and Sanchez was terrible. He's not a better option than Sanchez in 2015 either. or Barkley and certainly not Bradford. But hell if it will shut up the freaks to watch him fall on his face, fuck it IDC not my team anymore.... thank god
The thing about 2012. If Mark had been even below average no argument: he should have been the starter. Even after his bad 2nd half in 2011. With Tebow the backup and maybe being given a reasonable package of plays: 3rd and short and red zone. Like Rex had promised during training camp. But Mark was so bad he had to be replaced. That never materialized imo because they didn't know what they were doing.
I just saw some pics of Tebow in Eagles training camp. I don't know if the guy can throw the ball accurately at all yet but he looks in shape which he wasn't when he played here. He gained weight when he came to the Jets so he could play special teams. And btw one guy who thought he played well on STs was Mike Westhoff. Not too many Qbs will block for you either. That extra weight didn't help his game here. Either did the play calling by Sparano. They only allowed him to throw eight passes. Running into a stacked line on obvious running plays doesn't lead to great success.
Over Tim Tebow? Everyday of the week. NE exposed him in the playoffs and while they (curiously) brought him onboard to have a quick look/see, they quickly passed on him. Right now I see Sanchez as eventually starting in Philly and not because he's the answer so much as Bradford's brittle and Tebow does not have an NFL-caliber arm, that is unless Chip Kelly thinks he can actually win with Tebow as Bobby Douglass 2.0 in today's pass-happy NFL which I don't see happening. Tebow was a great college QB whose competitive will carried the day. The NFL's X's & O's nowadays require a QB to possess passing skills more than ever and with Tebow running a pass-adverse caveman offense, you're looking at an 8-in-the-box defensive roadblock every week.
It's hard to understand your argument when I'm talking 2012. Mark was horrible. He had to be replaced. Tim couldn't have been any worse. We had a better chance to win with Tim than with Sanchez. If he gave Tebow a few starts and he was terrible then you bench him. So if you still say start Sanchez (in 2012) you are ok with losing? Because we know the results. If you're talking 2015 that's another story. Believe me Chip would not tolerate a breakdown (of a Qb) the way Rex did.
It's simple. I'd have taken Sanchez (even with a paucity of offensive weapons) in 2012 "everyday of the week" and the same for 2015. Tebow was not going to force a defense to play in space, on the contrary, defenses would overplay the box and dare Tebow to beat them with his arm = Jets esp. with their lack of skill players would've had a better chance of seeing god. It's a moot point anyway - neither guy was going to put that offense on the map in '12.
Tebow won games in 2011 for the Broncos. It don't matter if it wasn't pretty, they won the games. Games aren't decided based on style points. So in 2012 you were ok with the results. If you could change things you'd still start Mark even though we went 6-10. You're ok with that. Me-I bench Mark earlier and see what Tim could do. If he sucks I go to McElroy.
One question for Chip is why did he trade Foles for Bradford? In terms of money both are in the final year of their deals: but Bradford is due 12.9 million in 2015 and Foles only 1.5. He says he likes Mark Sanchez and signed him to a new deal but not starters money. Mark could win that job and he played ok last year esp coming off of a serious injury. But his team had a winning record when he took over and was only .500 under him. Does Chip think he can win with Sanchez. I mean we're also talking 2016 and beyond. As for Timmy he's their 4th listed Qb and might not even make the team. He'll beat out Barkley only if the Eagles decide to go with short yardage packages.
It's sheer ignorance to state that Tebow won those games for the Broncos when he was the primary reason why they struggled on offense and needed so many comeback wins to begin with, you could just as easily say that the defense won those games by keeping the score close and waiting for Tebow to do anything on offense right at the end of the game. If you give credit to Tebow for past games as a reason to start him then you keep Sanchez in because 4 road playoff wins over better teams plus an 11 win season. Both of them sucked, you keep the guy in that can actually throw a forward pass. Yet another thread pcl'd
How is it pcl'd my friend. I guess if someone doesn't agree with you they are taking over a thread. You're using words like "ignorant" for opposite points of view (which is ignorant). You hate Tebow---ok with me.
Did it ever occur to you that your opinion is contrary to more than a hundred million dollars worth of coaching and scouting experience and expertise in the NFL and is not sustainable? One need not hate Tebow to understand that he is neither physically nor emotionally equipped to be an NFL quarterback.
Once upon a time...... Coaches used to acquire a good player, and then build a system around that player's strength and weaknesses. Nowadays, Coaches have their systems beforehand, and try to shoehorn players into their system. Tebow had all of the qualities of a winner, and a playmaker. He did it in college, and actually did it in the NFL. He just needs a coach to actually work with him and create a system specifically for him..... and win games. That's all that matters. Winning.
