Couldn't have gone better for Matz today. A Jew off Long Island playing for his favorite team and wearing Koufax's number. He even threw his first pitch over the backstop and gave up a homer to his first batter. Baseball is a game of redeeming features. The shot of his grandpa mouthing "holy shit" was priceless. I'd rather have Matz pinch hit than MAyberry or Campbell to be honest. Kid wants to smack one. His curveball is like a waterfall; Votto had a lot of trouble with it. Definitely energized the team after that languid first game that went to extras.

I listned to fatso on the fan today to hear about the rumors. Castro for Niese it seems is a good trade for us. They have a top prospect, Baez, coming up behind him too. Not sure I like him so much tho...he's a hot dog and seems selfish to me. Dodgers sound like a possibility. A guy brought up Van Slyke, an OF. Maybe Ethier Boston maybe...I wish we could get Hanley Ramirez....no way I guess cause of the contract I'm not expecting much but wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised
Im not a Castro fan but I think it would take more than just Niese to get him. Van Slyke is someone I was thinking of when it comes to the Dodgers but he's more of a Mayberry upgrade. Id take Ethier for Niese straight up IF the Dodgers take Cuddyer. If were talking BoSox then Boegarts is the guy to go after. To me he's not worth a Matz or Syndergaard but Id shop Montero and Niese as a package to try to get some type of decent bat in here.
Niese for Castro: you're not getting rid of salary. You're taking some on because he has more years. But the upside could be higher because he's a better player than Niese. You play Flores at 2nd and send the kid to AAA. I've gotten to the point: I don't expect anything of Sandy and the Wilpons.
Listening to the talk radio GM pretenders is funny. I wish we had owners that would be willing to take on a contract. Just don't trade these guys.

The only positive from tonight was Niese's tryout for the Cubs and Dodgers. He's been walking a bit too many batters but at least he's not giving up hits to them instead. This lineup desperately needs a professional hitter. Murphy will help...but there is NOBODY behind him to drive him in. Tejada Flores Plawecki and Cuddyer suck. Oh yeah, Cuddyer getting an MRI on his knee. Hope it comes back positive...which would be positive for this team and give Ceciliani more playing time
