I would speculate but most who choose JK are doing on what they have read in TGG about him & never/ever saw him play. Otherwise they would remember ALL those off sides penalties he incurred & would have gone elsewhere with there choice. MHO is those penalties is why JK has not & will not ever make the HOF
Curtis Martin OFF Darrelle Revis DEF For us i think its pretty easy, Namath is the most popular obviously but when its all said and done Revis will be the best, maybe the best CB period of all time.
Whatever dope you're smoking, please flush it!! First off, I definitely got to watch Joe Klecko play. The notion that penalties kept him out of the HOF is really stupid and an insult to, absolutely, the Jets best defensive player ever. Joe Klecko made the Pro Bowl at ALL defensive line positions: DE, DT, NT. When Revis makes the Pro Bowl as a SS FS and CB maybe, MAYBE, he could be considered Klecko's equal. What really impressed me was how Klecko was able to perform at a very high level AFTER a horrific knee injury. Just a strong guy who led the Jets defense by example, through his play, and vocally. So, actually, your speculation is moronic as is your fixation on Klecko's penalties, which I don't really have a good memory of.
I'm sure you do not have a good memory of the penalties as most normal people over time tend to forget negative things. He was a drive continuer & assisted many opposing teams continue drives which led to losses with his penalties. When U are judged for the HOF U are judged as a overall player & since JK did incur many off sides penalties those penalties were fall onto the negative side of his ledger. U also do not have to get nasty all I am doing is giving my HO just like U R on your side
I apologize for the rancor. But when you say, based solely on your memory (which you admit is mostly likely faulty), that Klecko had a lot of off-sides penalties you've failed to define "a lot" or pointed to a specific instance where even one of those penalties you've not documented and simply remember had a negative effect (beyond 5 yards of penalty offense) on any game or drive. Players get penalties. And, I'm sorry, if penalties were being counted wouldn't they have prevented Joe Klecko from being voted into the Pro Bowl at THREE SEPARATE DL positions? What? You think the penalties were ignored when they compute who is an all pro but counted when HOF ballets are handed out? That sure doesn't seem realistic to me. Joe Klecko occasionally got an offsides penalty. But he also caused some false start penalties as well. And with all due respect, I find the notion of penalties as a serious reason to have kept Joe Klecko out of the HOF as absurd and without any evidence to support it. Reggie White, I bet, got just as many penalties.
I never saw him play but Klecko and Revis are definitely on different sttospheres. Revis is a first ballot hall of famer, it looks like Klecko will never get in. I understand some may view Klecko as a greater Jet and what not but don't compare them as players. Not to mention making the pro bowl at three seperate defensive line positions is a lot different than making it at corner and both safeties. Those positions are way different than the defensive line positions.
I don't know: I think NT is quite different than DE, as different as FS is to CB. That Joe Klecko is not in the HOF is crazy IMO.
I go with 3 to 5 per game. That is way,way above a normal players average. I wonder were U a teen or pre teen when JK played? Yes I would agree with U that here & there he created a false start or 2 but the off sides ones wsere killers lots of times. I'm just saying it is POSSIBLE that because of numerous off sides penalties JK incurred maybe a reason he has not been voted into the HOF
O-Namath. He really did so much for that time in the game. Read defenses, called his own plays and threw for 4000 yards when CB could maul receivers all the way down the field. So the QB's back then had to be much more accurate. D- Joe Klecko. Hard nose tough guy. Only guy to go to pro bowl at 3 different positions.
A gentleman doesn't tell his age. But I did get to watch him and that entire early/mid 80s team. Mr. Klecko was The Man!! All those offsides penalties you can't seem to forget largely came when he was a NT. By then, he had already made the pro bowl as a DT and DE. As a NT he had endured a horrific knee injury. And, really, rarely were any of these penalties killers. Sometimes they were just five penalty yards. Many other times they never actually happened. Anyway, I think Klecko was amazing. Gastineau was great but very much a "me" guy. Klecko was the leader of that defense by example and vocally. Revis? He's a great CB. But he could never lead in the way Klecko did. That said, I think Revis's superbowl ring pretty much cements his HOF entry. Klecko is just a Jets legend...
Ken O'Brien And had he not gotten injured, Brett Favre would have won us a SB so he would have been up there too. _
Get real Champ. A few offside penalties don't offset his great play, all the big plays he made and making All Pro at every position on the DL. The reason he hasn't made the HOF is partially due to lack of respect for the Jets, but mostly because he became a criminal once he retired from football. That was just plain stupid. He shot himself in the foot.
Tks for the JK history lesson which I guess U thought I was unaware of & tks for conceding that he did incur a lot of off sides penalties
