Thanks. That doesn't sound like it's anything chronic or debilitating, so hopefully, is a non-issue.

In the first game of last season against SMU, he got 2 cracks in his transverse process, same as Romo. He sat the second half of that game against SMU, after taking a 31-0 lead into the half. He also sat the following week against Northwestern State. He returned the following game at Buffalo where he went 23 of 34 for 416 yards and 4 TD's through 3 quarters.

I voted backup. This is WAAAAAAYYYYYY too early, and he needs a few years to figure it out. Of course, people will be screaming for him to start week 2.

But not a lingering or chronic issue, right?

I look at it as any QB thats gets a multi-year deal is a franchise QB. Since it's so hard to come across elite ones now days were seeing teams almost "settle" for anybody that can at least put up some numbers.. I look at Tannehill, Kaep, Cam, maybe even Flacco.., not stars, but franchise QB's...obviously, they are the starters for years to come lol.

Yeah I see your point, I think I agree with that. I would probably call Cam Newton a star, but Tannehill, Kaep, and Flacco are just above average starters, at best, imo. Flacco is overrated imo, because he had a great defense and running game, and was mostly a game manager. No way he even makes the playoffs, let alone the SB, on a lesser team. People were stunned by the huge contract he got after winning the SB...he reminds me a lot of Neil O'Donnell, who also made it to a SB with the Steelers but lost. Remember him? Then the Jets sign him and he flops. That's Joe Flacco imo, he would have flopped also on our team last year.

I don't know how you can be sure of that. Didn't Romo have surgery?

Romo had surgery for a previous back injury. The transverse process injury just requires physical therapy. Cam Newton suffered the same injury in that car accident he had back in December. There is an article on Heavy, com about Cam Newtons injury and explains the injury and treatment. I don't have the ability to post the link on here yet or I would.

Classic Baylor & Art Briles. open with a toughie vs. SMU, then Northwestern State., then Cupcake U, then the Sister's School for the Blind, then Buffalo (UB Bulls not the Bills)...

Baylor plays 9 games against Power 5 conference schools every year which is more than most SEC teams play. They also don't get to dodge a few of the tougher teams like the other conference that play diviisional schedules. They have to play everyone and have put together back-to-back conference titles and are on pace to probably repeat again this year. Also these schedules were made when Baylor still sucked. Baylor is trying to upgrade their schedule now.

This will be Briles' 8th season at the helm. They've played 1 non-conference game vs. a Power 5 opponent under him. 1. Powerhouse Wake Forest in 2009.

That was my biggest concern with Petty pre-draft. I was worried he hasn't been tested and padded his stats against crap teams. They don't play very good defense in the Big 12 and up until this year's Cotton Bowl he didn't play a single Power 5 team outside of the Big 12. He looked very good in the Cotton Bowl though.. at least for the first 3 quarters.

I don't see them repeating unless Seth Russell can replicate Petty's play. TCU has to be the favorite at this juncture, after all they were co-Big 12 champs last year and return their star QB.

The Bears didn't loose much aside from QB, and are still loaded at the skill positions, but they lost Petty, which is a HUGE loss for that offense.

Kansas, and to a lesser degree Iowa State are both horrid. If this were soccer they'd surely be relegated to a non power-5 conference. Lol

Seth Russell should have no problem picking up where Petty left off. In fact Russell brings a running aspect to the offense that Baylor hasn't had since RG3. He was clocked at 4.49 in the 40 during the Spring workouts. More importantly Briles has proven that he can replace extremely talented QB's with yet another talented QB and continue to have success. Everyone expected a drop off after RG3 and Nick Florence came in and exceed RG3's numbers. Petty followed up with better numbers and 2 Big 12 titles. Until Seth proves he can't do it, I'm inclined to believe that Baylor will not see a drop off.

TCU will definitely be right up there with Baylor, but TCU lost pretty much their entire defensive backfield and a number of other starters. While they have a great QB, I think Baylor has the overall better team and should repeat.

I think it is a misconception that the Big 12 has horrible defenses. I think the stats get skewed due to the offenses being as productive as they are. A lot of people like to say, just wait until they play a real defense. That happened this year when TCU and Baylor both rolled up yards and points against two talented defenses in Michigan St and Ole Miss. Beyond that TCU is known to be one of the top defenses in the country and Baylor dropped 61 on them this year. The defenses in the Big 12 would be ranked much higher if you took out the stats from the Baylor games that throw everything off.

I keep double guessing the Petty pick for some reason. I see a future in which the Rams move to LA and Sean Mannion leads them to a SB. Am I a soothsayer or just sniffing glue?

Seriously - listen. It's about how the team nurtures the prospect, according to the vision they have in him.

Joe Cool is quite obviously the greatest QB of all time for a lot of us - including me. He was drafted in 3rd round. All it takes is a good OC with a vision, and good coaching from that vision. Just hope that Gailey can be that visionary for Petty.

Cam Newton is a great example of your point (which I totally agree with). Cam got that money and in the context of the league one would say he doesn't deserve it.

    But I'll tell ya what.

If we had a guy like Cam or Flacco we'd have a big leg up on others. It's not easy to come by a QB. There's a tier 1, tier 1a and everyone else.

If petty can ever become a flacco or even dalton were in quite good shape tbh. Same goes for geno for that matter.
