I bash Geno regularly here as the rest of the NY audience does. He must have tried several antidepressants and the way the CS is handling him looks like he may be a candidate for Electro Shock Therapy. I actually feel bad for the guy. As soon as left WVU it was mostly downhill for him but his biggest fan was always Chan Gaily. I believe Gaily got hired promising to make him a winner. I am skeptical, but as we approach PreSeason I wish him luck. Fitzpatrick is still the guy IMO. Gaily can really win either way no matter which QB is there by Game 3.
I'm not so sure that it's a matter of MM's thinking he could "fix" Geno, but rather that he thought (either arrogantly, mistakenly, or foolishly...take your pick) that he could fit a square peg into a round hole. MM didn't alter his offense to suit Geno's abilities and "strengths" (and I use "strengths" lightly, because at this point, I'm not certain what, if any, strengths Geno really has). Instead he tried to change the type of QB Geno is or at least what he's used to. Gailey OTOH is taking a totally different approach. He isn't trying to "fix" or change Geno. He's taking Geno where he is, and altering his offensive scheme to fit with what Geno feels most comfortable, and what he is realistically able to do well. IMO that's a BIG difference, and is the more realistic and logical. I will never understand the NFL coaches who consistently try to fit square pegs into round holes. One can see it every year. A team will draft a player who has played in a read and react type defense and that's where his skills and talents are best utilized, and they will try to force him into an aggressive, attacking D. On offense, they will take a player with limited intelligence and put him in a complex, more cerebral system, or his lack of size or speed, or the right physical characteristics have him at a handicap. This works with some players who are supremely talented and who can succeed in whatever system, but they are in the minority. Most players are more limited, either psychologically, physically or mentally. There are schemes or systems in which they can succeed, or at least play to the best of their abilities, and there are those in which they can't or won't succeed. I believe that most of the time, the coaches or perhaps the GMs are the problem in this area, not the players. Of course in their defense, often they don't know if a player can adjust or adapt, so they roll the dice. With scouting and personality testing getting more complex and scientific, I think things are changing and improving in this area. I don't think we see this quite as much as we used to. That said, I can't see how trying to fit Geno into a WCO ever made much sense.
I would not label it blinded by dislike for Geno; more like not having respect for his ability (or lack thereof).
Nope when you start bitching for no reason you are blinded by hate. For God sakes people were bitching in May.
