the other poster was right imo, watching him play first hand for two years, its hard to see past some of the numbers but when you look closely you can see the negative affects he has on an offense and why he's been a very overrated player, he demands a lot of targets to get his production, a lot, he's got terrible speed {you will see evidence in this regard when he constantly will try to go horizontal after catching the ball to outrun defenders} at this point and really cannot stretch a defense at all, he doesn't require a double team nearly as much as you think, {grimes covered him very easily last year in their game} but what he can do is box out defenders and make catches on a lot of comebacks and slants..good jump ball end zone player, he's a pretty good player at this point...I would say ''stop gap fits the bill, you should be looking for his replacement as early as next year in the draft.
yup. plus he seems happy to be here. for a pretty minimal raise, to show him some love and some injury protection i think its a good idea
he is the kind of player you need with a qb like geno. a guy who is going to win 1 on 1 on bad throws and prevent internceptions.
well in order to catch 100+ passes a year yes you need a lot of targets. He caught nearly everything throw his way though so I have to slightly disagree with you there. If B Marsh catches 120 balls for 1300 yards and 10 tds and it requires a lot of targets I don't think you'll find anyone complaining so long as he catches the ball when its thrown to him.
Never really saw this so I decided to check, I compared him to C Johnson, D Thomas, M Wallace and V Jackson, The only one of those 4 who had a better target to reception ratio was Thomas and he had Manning throwing to him. I don't think many are expecting him to be more than a 2 year player, maybe 3 if he is still looking good since the 3rd year he is still under contract for a reasonable amount..
That comparison would work if Eli Manning was a really bad QB and Plaxico Burress was past his prime and on his 4th team at the time. He's more like "The Plax (NYJ version) to our Sanchez" except Geno is worse than Sanchez.
see I think that many targets to one player disrupts the progressions good offensive football usually depicts..But because you guys will run the ball a lot and play good defense, a good possession type offense with one receiver getting over 100 rec's might be the way to go.

I swear some would find something to complain about no matter if we signed Peyton in his prime. Marshall is STILL a beast and we should be thrilled to have him on our roster.
Marshall does several things well, and that will be his role. He won't put up the gaudy stats he has in the past, but he doesn't need to. If he does his role and stays healthy, the Jets offense will improve by a lot.
no your right, I just think from seeing him play up close for two years relative to the hype, he was overrated, some dropped passes, no speed, limited route tree, but a productive back to the basket type receiver...Hes an upgrade at a position of need for y'all so that makes it worthwhile..
