We all have to play the genetic hand we're dealt, and while that imho was "dirty pool" I also have enough faith in your sense of good judgement to think you'd know better then to go the low-rent "hey shorty!" route in the "Banned" thread (our occasional tête-à-têtes notwithstanding). Just sayin'… on-topic: Year 3 for Geno and according to Bill Parcells, that's the year you make the final determination of whether or not your QB's "got it" or not.
i think I'd be more concerned if he DIDNT have that mindset. look, he's played poorly, he's played backup quality ball the last two years and hasn't earned trust because of it. But that said, yeah the guy gets beaten down for some dumbass reasons. A statement of confidence like that one is on the short list of platitudes any QB responds with. I feel like if he said "I don't real think this is my team" there will be fans who say he has no motor or drive so screw him. damned if you do or don't. And then theres unnecessary narrative that he's actually stupid… I guess because he messed up with the time zones and struggles with reads that makes him an idiot? theres really just this nasty resentment from fans that take feel obligated to take his struggles personally and are ready to jump on him fairly or not. NFL fans are kind of notorious for this. On Smith's part he's got to embrace it, ignore it or do whatever he needs to do to keep at it and improve for the sake of his team and career.
He deserves every boo he gets.. The guy is hated because he's a douche and he's not good and what he does..... But he thinks he's god's gift to the NFL. He's mentally tough? You're joking, right? Guy's as dumb as a rock. He hasn't handled pressure good at all. There have been 4 games in his career where he has played "reasonably well.." and only 1 came after his benching.. Mark had thicker skin than Geno, and it's not even close.... Hopefully he never has to play in Chan GAiley's system because the Amish rifle beats him out/and/or Petty becomes Russell Wilson..
It's obvious. It's tied to his performance for the most part. Then there are others who seem to have something personal against him.
Why is Geno so hated? Well. No team is more desperate for good QB play than the Jets. And who's play has been more bi-polar than Geno? That would probably explain it.
Don't hate Geno as a person. Just hate him being our QB. Pissed me off too many damn times watching him screw up a game.

He's a QB playing in NY and he has fucking sucked. I don't know why the reaction to him is surprising.
In terms of doing stupid things off the field there's only a few things you could get him on. He's basically been ok. He doesn't have a big personality but neither did most Jets Qbs throughout history. He was perceived to be Idzik's guy and given a push to be the starter. And after he was finally benched Rex fans thought he was forced to start Geno by Idzik. Whether you believe that or not (and I don't) the bottom line is Geno's almost league low stats and losing performances. He's hated for that and that only. If he plays well in 2015 he would be very popular. I'm sure Geno's jersey is one of the worst selling in the NFL.
