bingo, There is a reason he is 50 pounds heavier then all three of them, he's a run stuffer. Here's the thing, our ends are big 300 pound guys, the type of people running 4-3 are 270 lb ends, who are quick and can attack the QB. Wilk, Rich, Williams, and Harrison for that matter are all over 300, not the exact size you want from your end. We just don't have the personnel when you also consider our SLOW line backers. What do you do with Harris and Davis? Two inside guys, one who can't run at all. Sure Davis could probably switch to OLB. I just think we should keep it like we had it with Rex, which is going to happen, 3-4 with a lot of 4-3 packages.
5-2 defense son! D-Line: Coples / Wilk / Snacks / Richardson / Leonard Williams Linebackers: David Harris / DeMario Davis Fuck w/ us
I'm not too worried about how to best use Big Cat. If Bowles gets in over his head he can pick up the telly and give Rex Ryan a call!
careful what you wish for, he may have Leonard Williams jamming receivers at the LOS like he did w/ Coples in that Bears game last season.
Assuming that Mo wants huge money (that is the premise of your comment), what do you think his realistic trade value is?
Generally agree. Bowles reiterated after draft day 1 that the Jets would remain primarily a 3-4 defense. He will go to other packages, 4-3 or whatever, depending on the game situation and team they were playing. Williams said he liked to pattern his game after JJ Watt. I don't follow the Texans, but I think Watt has a lot of flexibility as to where he lines up on different plays. Williams said he likes to line up over the center on passing plays because he doesn't think slower interior lineman can block him. I don't think Bowles will give Williams that much flexibility right away, but if Williams nears the same production as Watt, somewhere down the line he may.
The more I see of this kid, the more impressed I am. He's got great hands, sheds blocking with ease and closes in on tackles with surety. What's not to love?
Former NFL Coach Mike Westhoff talking about possible D looks with the addition of Williams. Westhoff, btw, has taken a hard look at Bowles and become familiar with his style and preferences. We're gonna be running Bowles' D....Nobody else's. http://web.sny.tv/media/video.jsp?content_id=98636483&topic_id=6479520
This is one of the reasons why I was disappointed that we let Ellis go. It isn't that Ellis was going to Canton or anything, but he was a good, reliable backup who may still have had some upside. It is a shame to lose that option when we could have used him in rotation....
