the rule was still somewhat unknown back then so most thought it was a catch. 3 years earlier a similar type of play happened and it benefitted us vs. Miami and Chris Chambers so I knew the rule. The stadium went berserk when they overturned it but I thought it might be watching the video board then when I got home and saw the clearer replays I knew it was the right call.
If Amaro takes a step forward it's going to be inexcusable for us not to have at the very least a solid offense
Salas was not cut - did not need to be as he is a FA and has not been signed by any team. SIGNED & UNDER CONTRACT - 10 - Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley, Quincy Enunwa, Shaquelle Evans, Chris Owusu, T.J. Graham, Saalim Hakim, DeVier Posey & Walter Powell DRAFTED – 1 - Devin Smith TRY OUTS - 1 - Aaron Mellette No way the Jets will carry more than 6-7 WRs on the final roster so there will be some competition between seven young WRs - Shaquelle Evans, Chris Owusu, Quincy Enunwa, T.J. Graham, Saalim Hakim, DeVier Posey & Walter Powell - for two to three slots. Mellette would have an outside chance if he has recovered and can play at the level he showed in Baltimore 2 years ago but that is unlikely or they would have him in their camp. I have put in the order I think they sit at present although the ability to contribute on special teams will be critical for them to stick.
I love this receiving corps. Decker is really underrated as a player. He's a complete receiver who should thrive now that Marshall was brought in. Marshall is obviously a star and probably the best threat we've had on the outside since Keyshawn. He is everything you want in a receiver. I think Smith could be a real dynamic force, great ball tracking and ball skills.
People forget what a great route runner Decker is and how if he and Marshall take the role of elder statesmen that they will pass on tips to the younger players. Kerley mentioned this last year in particular as did some of the others, a role Holmes never assumed. Decker honed his craft working under Manning and can use that knowledge to make others better In addition something they missed last year was competition in practice - this year our WRs will go against our secondary in practice. They either learn fast or get blanked last year they probably felt they were better than they were given our secondary. I loved reading this after day 2 of voluntary camp last week "Late in practice, the first-team offense ran a two-minute drill against the first-team defense. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall lined up against cornerback Darrelle Revis — a matchup of two of the Jets' biggest stars. Geno Smith lobbed a pretty pass to Marshall, over Revis, who immediately complained to an official that Marshall grabbed his jersey. You can already see that famous Revis competitiveness coming out, two days into a voluntary minicamp. A couple minutes later, Marshall got the better of Revis again, out-leaping him in the front corner of the end zone for a touchdown catch of about 15 yards. Revis, who is 5-11, mistimed his jump against Marshall, who is 6-4. This was by far the most dramatic moment of the day. " Lets not forget this was in April w/o pads but still it has me licking my lips for July
Don't forget speed guy we traded for in the draft davier posey from the Texans..another young wideojt
I know what to expect from Marshall, Decker and Kerley. The guy that I'll be watching is Evans. I want to see how he developed with a year under his belt. He could be a wild card.
guys, it all still comes down to the QB....something we really do not have. Just put a good (not great) QB there, and these guys could shine most anywhere.
Agree on Evans. He's definitely a wildcard for this team. I see him as a guy who could emerge and carve out a nice role for himself on this offense, or cut by the end of the preseason. He's going to suffer from the regime change.
Well now Geno doesn't have an excuse anymore, thank god Mac addressed the position. I'm just glad we don't have to count on bums to be in our starting lineup like Nelson or having Kerley be our #1 WR
Yeah if he doesn't separate himself he could be a camp casualty. But he could be a solid possession receiver for us.
Decker will IMO absolutely take his skills to a much higher level under this new offense. He is no longer the only weapon. He will not get as many double coverage situations. He was good last year, he will be deadly this year. Not to mention the opposing Ds will have to respect the deep threat for a change with our rookie. The two big ifs are the bugaboo, but if 1) our QB can get the time to throw, and 2) if he delivers the ball on time and accurately most of the time like the plan calls for, these group of WRs + Amaro can do some serious damage. QBs are now on notice that excuses about the quality of the supporting cast are officially over.
How dare you forget Salas! And Owusu may be in that mix. Guy had some good catches last season.. And that dude we traded the Texans for.. KR PR, i'm guessing.
Don Manard coming in from retirement to tip Jet receivers what tricks they need to catch Geno passes Challenging Marshall to 40 yd dash.
