I was dissapointed with fan turn out. I will admit I didnt make it to my seat before kick off. I was there before the 1st punt and it was a 3 and out. Its much worse for 4:00 games. I can understand drive thru the city on a sunday night is a bitch!!! Plus getting out of the meadowlands blows and thats not going to change with the new stadium. All the being said I do put all this time in for just a tailgate. I stayed till the end
Hey now...... Dodger fans started sticking around to the end once we got Eric Gagne. It's a whole event now when he comes in, at least when he's healthy. But I agree, a lot of people in my section were more interested in getting home to watch the Mets game. Then why come at all? That's why they make radios. I'm guilty of being late a lot, but I'm late to almost everything. Sunday we were actually there for the kickoff, though.
i've been a jet fan all my life, can miss a game no matter what the record is but I have to say when I do go to the games I am sometimes embarressed by Jet Fans. Not all but a good amount of the fans seem trashy. I was on the wait list for 5 years and decided to drop off this year after the things I saw last year, not getting the WSS didn't help either.
Yeah, because there would be no drunken loudmouths if the games were played in NYC It's a friggin football game, there are always going to be people that use it as an excuse to get loaded out of their minds.
When I went to games my biggest peeve was the tailgaters taking up many, many spots for there party leaving very few spots for non tailgaters like myself which you so correctly pointed out.
ITs not the drinking that bothers me, I do enough of that myself, its the guys throwing beer bottles on the field (ala Colt game) and shouting obsenities that get me.
I say a million times, in my opinion people should get to the game early. I invest too much money on tickets to have traffic, people taking up more than one spot or closed lots ruin my time. When people look at me funny when I say I arrive 5 hours before game time, I tell them that is what I like to do. People spend an entire day at Great Adventure, I spend it at a football game. I am amazed to see people leave at halftime, why bother even going? Everyone is entitled to do what they want when they pay for tickets, but I do not see "rabid" Jets fans leaving early, it is all the casual fans that leave. I can also say that I left some games early but I have been going since 1981 and there were three games in that class. I have been to over 200 games.
I park right by the way out and walk all the way in. That, combined with my secret shortcut, gets me out of there pretty fast, even staying to the end of the game. We walk past everyone in traffic, get in the car and go.
 All of us that have been going for a long time know the secrets to getting out quickly, but we ain't talking...
Well, what do you think causes that kind of behavior from people? I don't get wrapped up in what other fans are doing and obscenity certainly doesn't bother me. The only thing that really bugs is the wannabe cheerleaders yelling at people to stand up at stupid times.
When I go, we're always in our seats at least 30 minutes before kickoff. After the game, the security guys usually have to tell us to leave.
I was there on Sunday, and have had season tickets for 19 years, but there probably were a few reasons why the crowd was dead. One, the first half was one of the most boring halves you could see in an NFL game. Then, the Jets took complete control. The game was not exciting until about 5 minutes left and then things got interesting. I am not going to kill people who had to sit through 2.5 hours to finally see a few fun minutes. I also don't have too much of a problem with people getting in a few minutes late. If it is going to take the Jets a quarter to get into every game (I don't remember them playing a good 1st quarter yet this year), why should the fans be worried about being there for the kickoff? I don't see it as that big of a deal if some folks arrive a few minutes in. Just for the record, I was there for the kickoff and stayed through the end of the game. But I'm not going to kill others who don't do the same exact thing that I choose to do.
On WFAN, francessa and russo have been discussing this for years--that the jet fans leave early. (They spoke about this after this years NE game -- when -- during the comeback the place was empty). Mike says that most jet season ticket holders were giant fans who couldnt get tickets and when the jets moved in the early 80's -- they got these tickets b/c it was the best they could do. Never bought it. Maybe its true.
Good one, You don't need to be an asshole at the game to enjoy it. Nothing wrong with screaming and yelling, just don't be an asshole.
I don't think I buy that. The Jets were selling out the last 5 or 6 years at Shea, which was around 60,000, and I believe there was a waiting list by then. So the move would let another 17-18,000 in, tops. Some might have been Giant fans, but I doubt they are still spending that kind of money to watch a team they don't like and in most cases miss their own game. Francesa is just a Giant fan with a superiority complex.
this week was my first jets game and i was embarassed. The crowd was so shit. they kept on throwing paper airplanes and making more noise for that than the game. I hated it. People in front of me were yelling at each other about their relationship, while the game was going on! It was a disgrace hopefully we are able to fill the stadium up with die hards and not assholes
