6 - Leonard Williams, DE, USC 37 - Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State 82 - Lorenzo Mauldin, OLB, Louisville 104 - Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor 142 - Brandon Marhsall, WR, [TRADE from Bears] 152 - Jarvis Harrison, OG, Texas A&M 223 - Deon Smith, DT, Northwestern St. 224 - Zac Stacey. RB, [TRADE from Rams]
That's a solid A- B++ draft right there. The Deon Simon selection essentially sealed Snacks fate with our team though. He'll be on a different team come next season. Upset that we didn't come away with a Tackle or speed RB. Hopefully we get some solid UDFA's. Taiwan Jones and Tre McBride should be high on that list
I like it, understandably not everyone is going to be happy because we had some favorites that we wanted taken at some point in the draft. I wanted Sammy Coates on this team but he went to the steelers, other than that, I'm very happy with this FO and the job they are doing.
Deon Simon doesn't make Snacks expendable. However, I will say that I do think this upcoming season is Snacks's last season with the Jets.
A 7th round pick who will fight to make the roster seals one of the best player on our teams fate?? If anything he solidified Snacks as a Jet. Simon is a 3-4 NT just like Snacks therefore this would provide more evidence that we are staying in a 3-4 than anything. Very, very bad post.
Snacks isn't leaving this season. What my post meant was that Simon will be groomed this season to take Snacks place when he becomes a UFA next season since we won't be able to afford him with deals still to hand out to Mo n Sheldon.
i think mo is much more likely to go then snacks. williams can replace what mo does and snacks will come much cheaper then wilkerson
Just because we drafted a NT in the 7th round doesn't imply anything about players already on our team. Be prepared to see a lot of 4-2-5 base sets coming up this season with a mixture of 3-4 thrown in against obvious running situations. The sky's the limit with this crew, and I hope we will have it for many more years to come.
If you are going to include Stacey then you should also include Marshall as they both came from the same 5th round pick.
If you are including players we gave picks for then Posey as part of the deal with Houston also needs to be considered. We actually got 3 WRs and a RB for 2 original picks - sounds a little like the movie Draft Day Did not enjoy the disaster that the draft was last year when we missed time after time - missing out on quality as we constantly reached - did not feel we had one reach this year With all the picks why not bundle a few and trade up to get a better WR prospect??? Gabe Jackson for McDougle who could have been taken in the 5th Saunders in the 4th cut early in the season ahead of Bryant who was a tall deep threat who shone for the Steelers George in the 5th who never made it out of camp, would have preferred Gaines who went to the Rams Boyd in the 6th who also never made it out of camp, would have punted on S Henderson a first round talent who slipped due to application issues (sounds like our 5th OG selection this year)
No, not really. Nobody knows what's happening in 2016 with the roster. Simon is a developmental pick. Just like developing Snacks allowed Mac to let Ellis go. And it doesn't mean they're sticking with just a 3-4 either It's a lot easier to find a run stuffer than to find talents like Sheldon, Mo, and hopefully Williams. Especially when that run stuffer is, and has been, surrounded by the talent that's been there. Mac said he's trying to establish a pipeline into the roster of replacement players. The more good players he gets the more tougher decisions he'll have to make. It's part of developing a roster in the cap era. If Williams lives up to his potential it all becomes a good problem. Not a loss by addition. It also opens up the luxury of having a choice. You can't keep everyone. You never can
A developing Snacks let Ellis go?? A undrafted player beat out Ellis and earned his spot. He was not given anything nor expected to do anything. And I said if it means anything regarding Snacks fate so you wasted your time with that reply.
Really. That's right. Snacks' developing into a good player allowed the GM the luxury of letting Ellis walk. That's why you always have developing players come in. Just like Simon has a chance to earn his place on the team like Snacks did and why he was picked in the first place. You feed the system. Other than that you're right, it is a waste of time. I'll just let you be to set everyone straight. If the other poster had said 'may' make Snacks expendable we both wouldn't be wasting time
I think Mac and co did an excellent job. It helped that the Big Cat fell in our lap. I give him an A grade simply because he walked away with the best player in the draft and added depth to every position of need with solid talent.
