The Cowboys got the steal of the draft when they took Gregory at the end of round 2. In fact, this might end up being the best draft pick of all time! This guy was originally supposed to be a top 5 overall pick, based on his play on the field at Nebraska, and then as the draft approached a failed drug test and other off the field concerns caused him to slide. But watching his interview after being drafted, he came across as very well-spoken, mature, and ready to turn his life around (not that he did all that bad in college, racking up 17.5 sacks in 2 seasons)

It takes a strong football organization to be able to make this pick. This is the kind of draft selection that sets the great franchises apart - the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys of the league. While the other teams shy away from these kinds of talented players, the elite franchises wait for them to fall into their laps and then pounce. The bad frachises are swayed by the noise leading up to the draft, and forget that it's still mostly about finding the best football players on the field, the guys who produced the best in actual games.

"Representatives for Gregory made it clear that whichever team drafted him needed to have a support system in place that would be expected to include a security person and a personal handler who would follow Gregory at all times, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter."

The Cowboys go the extra mile for their players, drafting the best talents and then closely monitoring every aspect of their development. They did the same thing with Dez Bryant, and it has worked out big time. I wish we had an organizational structure like that, that realizes that running an NFL franchise is much different than running other types of businesses. These players being drafted are not "professionals" that can be left alone to sink or swim on their own, they are oftentimes immature kids that need coaches who are as much parental figures to them as they are teachers and supervisors.

I thought Gregory would be the steal of the draft but I truly believe this is a horrible environment for him

It seems he may have a lot more issues than anyone knew too, at least if you believe the chatter yesterday. Personally I wouldn't mind if we waste one of those three 7s we have today on Collins. The chance he is exonerated is probably better than any other 7 making the team anyway.

Common sense, combined with reason. Together with the lessons of history. Learn from it. That's how you make an educated argument. ...it's something of a lost art, I know. That's why there's so much insanity in the world today.

It's funny when you use phrases like "common sense" and "reason" and "educated argument" and "lessons of history" after reading your prior post.

Didn't Manziel say something like that last year?

    How did history treat that?

His excellent grammar is on display as well.

In all reality though he could be a good pick. I just think it really depends on his ability to throw some weight on especially playing in that 4-3. He's going to get tossed around by tackles on the edge in the run game and stonewalled if he doesn't beat them around the outside in pass rushing situations. He seems too easy to block at a lanky 230 pounds.

The off the field issues turn into either he can do it or not. He can channel his problems into aggression and motivation or he won't. There's really no middle ground in the situation; he's either all in or he'll be out of the league in 3 years.

That's why I think even if he goes in motivated he has a lot of strength to gain to be effective.

    OPost is beyond ridiculous.
"It takes a strong organization"? An organization with a megalomaniac self-centered spoiled owner would also be a good candidate for this move.
"Gregory's agent said..." Is this a fucking joke? Do you seriously consider his camp and their opinions to be objective? WTF?!

Unfucking believable ... Can we at least wait until Gregory makes it to the TC without being under the influence before proclaiming this the best pick of all times?

Best draft pick of all time?

If you're not a Qb, you can't qualify for that award.

Gregory had to be helped off the field the first day of rookie camp.

Someone spiked the holy water and laced the communion wafer with LSD.

Joe Montana was picked in the middle of the 3rd round and a 2nd round pick who couldn't make it through his first day of rookie mini camp is the best pick of all time?

Someone call Bellevue, they must have an escapee.
