JJ Watt had 20.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and scored 5 TDs and his team couldn't even make the playoffs. This kid will never have production like that. Who gives a shit about defensive line? The Jets need to score points. Plain and simple. Very disappointing pick tonight, who gives a shit about BPA philosophies and value? That's all horseshit. Would rather have rolled the dice with White especially given the state of our D-line already.

I agree with all of that but still love the pick anyway..however this defense better give up 0 points a game if we want a chance to win...they really do need to fix the offense and quick.

Exactly. The 'BPA' argument with Pryor last year and Williams this year is night and day different. At the time when Pryor was picked at #18, the following 'BPA's' were also available:

    - Ja'Wuan James, OT, Tennessee
    - Brandon Cooks, WR, Oregon St.
    - HaHa Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama
    - Dee Ford, DE, Auburn
    - Deone Bucannon, S, Wash. St.
    - Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Fla. St.

Not only is this Williams the uncontested BPA at #6, he was regarded by most as the BP in the entire draft….this as a 20-year old. This is a younger, bigger (and healthier) Jadeveon Clowney falling into your lap.

We should start a petition to have his name changed to Williamson.

Yes, but alot of those holes were addressed in free agency. Secondary is solidified, WR's were reinforced with Brandon Marshall, RB with Stevan Ridley, QB I think Fitz can be a decent game manager and he has shown he can move the chains. The 2015 Jets post free agency could select the BPA.

I don't get why people were set on WR, that isn't an 'immediate' need either with Marshall and Decker. Yes it would be nice to have a #3 capable of being a top two receiver, they can get that later in the draft, in FA or another Marshall-type trade in an offseason or two.

Mo is being actively shopped, so essentially we took the #6 pick, drafted an unproven DE so we can be cheap fucks and not give Mo a contract.

Tell me how this team is better sans mo with Williams instead of retaining Mo long term and White at WR? We basically just punted our #6 pick just to save a buck. Unless Mo returns a top Qb this move sucks, and it's just Woody being a tight ass.

Man if we could get anything CLOSE to that level of production in Williams - I would be one happy camper since you are the one throwing our the comparison.

I swear to god if you people do NOT stop saying this! We added Brandon Marshall and Ridley...our offense is NOT a disaster. Our QB IS the disaster and one of those wasn't coming to the Jets at 6!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of you would bitch if sunshine blew up your ass and the $265 million dollar lotto landed in your lap. The ONLY thing that is going to fix our offense is if the light bulb comes on for Geno or Fitzpatrick plays like he did in Buffalo. Not Cooper nor White was going to fix that. STOP WHINING!!! Uggggghhhhhhhh.....

Yeah, the idea is to win. In the 15 or so years (?) in their history the Texans have made the playoffs what, 2 or 3 times?

In Watt they have the best defensive player in the league by leaps and bounds. They added another physical freak athlete in Clowney on D. They passed on a QB in round 1 and then could have taken Carr in round 2 and passed on him again.

Add it all up and the bottom line is they haven't won a thing.

At the most important position they've been slumming it with Matt Schaub, Ryan Mallett, etc.

You could have the best DT or best whatever else in the league. You need a QB. To win you need to be able to score points and score a lot of them.

I don't see how adding Williams and losing Mo gets this team any closer to what should be the only goal, which is to win games.

You're making an awful lot of assumptions about things that haven't happened yet.

Chill. I didn't even want to trade up for Mariota. I would have been okay with White or Cooper. Mostly I wanted Fowler or Beasley as they actual play positions of need. Williams doesn't fit a position of need. So either he's going to be a rotational player or one of our other recent first round DL will be...either way it's wasting a first round pick. That or Mo gets traded or walks for nothing in FA.

Where did you see Mo is actively being shopped

Or are you inferring it based on the Williams pick?

I agree, I don't see how adding Williams and losing Mo makes this team any better.

I like Williams as a prospect but for all we know Malcolm Brown could turn out to be the better pro.

I would have rather moved back and taken MG3 or Gurley. A workhorse RB who can catch the football is a screaming need, and those 2 guys are elite prospects.

In reality Marshall is a one year rental unless we get him to redo his contract and nobody knows if Fitzpatrick or Ridley will be healthy enough to play or even get on the field even if they are healthy so let's not get carried away with what they did for the offense.

Kevin White would have made sense staying put at #6.

But honestly, as much as I love him as a prospect, the bust risk is also relatively high and two years from now, if he does turn out to be a complete swing and miss, fans would probably be bashing him for passing on Williams or for not taking Parker or Gurley.

It was a tough spot to be in at #6 with Amari off the board.

Oakland wrecked things by passing on Williams. Macc should have traded down, unless there were absolutely zero enticing offers on the table.

That's just it...I'm not getting carried away. Others are. Our offense has one glaring weakness and that is, as everyone will agree, the QB position. The one position we wouldn't be able to fill in the first round. Everyone is on the jock of a rush LB'er but no one knows how our existing members, i.e. Couples etc..., is going to play in Bowles defense. In my PROFESSIONAL opinion if you have the opportunity to get what some are calling a "generational player" then you draft his ass...period. Wilkerson or not.

Some tend to forget that this is a business. I can EASILY see them dealing Wilkerson for something in this draft. This regime has no vested interest in any of these players so there you go. MAYBE they drafted Williams because they already knew they were going to deal Mo...who knows. I just know that for a team that perennially drafts like shit the Jets almost NEVER get the consensus best guy. EVER...we get shit like Gholston more often than not.

some of you guys are real idiots the Jets were not getting a QB in the draft which is the only thing that will make a significant difference in the offense. They have Marshall Decker Kerley and Amaro with plenty of options at WR in the 2-3 rounds you dopes only to idiot jet fans is getting the #1 rated player in the draft a horrible pick LOL

and you do not draft need in the early picks thats why teams constantly remain shit. in the first round you take BPA unless its a QB learn something

the jets had 4 wins last year and are using the #6 pick on a player who isnt even going to start this year or next yr

i understand bpa but the jets need to fill holes at some point

a trade would have been best imo
