Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson, Damon Harrison, Quinton Coples, and now Leonard Williams. WOW.

All this talent would seem wasted if these players were used in rotation. Why not just put as many of these guys out there at the same time in a 4-3 Front.

While the LB corp isn't neccessarily a weakness, it definitely is not as strong as the D Line. It makes sense to only have 3 LBs out there and go with 4 DL.

Wilkerson, Sheldon, Harrison, and Leonard Williams starting as 4 lineman.
David Harris, Calvin Pace, and Demario Davis at linebacker.

I know Bowles has already said he is keep it a 3-4 defense....but it seems like there's so much more upside having a 4-3.

    Thoughts?

No, switch to a nickle base, the weakness is LB, no reason to have 3 or 4 LBs on the field. Strengths are DL and CB, and our HC ran the most 3 and 4 corner sets of any team in the league last year.

    4 - 2 - 5 base

    3 - 3 - 5 with Coples roaming on passing downs

Bowles said he is staying with his 3-4 base but will play 4-3 as he as always done. Seems pretty firm in his decision.

Lol well they have to provide either a 34 or 43 base for the TV people and I'm sure he doesn't want to make beat writers heads explode telling them that he's not running a standard defensive base but if he plans on spending the majority of defensive plays with 2 or 3 of his best playmakers on the sideline then he never should have been hired.

I just don't think that's what is going to happen, no matter what he tells the mediots, watch the sets he puts on the field, that will be the true story

It's not like he's trying to prevent someone from game planning for him, it's May 1st. No reason to lie about it, if he says his base is a 3-4 it's most likely a 3-4. I'm sure he'll play a lot more 4 down lineman than usual but regardless his comments are either strange or the pick becomes even more aggravating. Only time will tell.

Rex gave his base defense as 34 for 6 years and it wasn't even close to being true

Bowles is probably creative enough to mix it up.

i expect a lot of Nickel. Bowles will blitz with DB's, and use extra bodies to cover the middle of field.
our Dline and Harris can stuff the run even with one less LB out there....

Yep, people are too concerned with the labels of 3-4, and how a player fits. They have several DB's also that can play up including A.Allen, Pryor, and maybe Rontez Miles.

People moaned and bitched about how Richardson wasn't fit for a 3-4 when he was drafted.

Richardson and Williams can play anywhere on the line

In the end it's about good players

You play him and rotate Snacks. Snacks is the 5th man. Both Williams and Sheldon can play three technique.

Rotate him in with the starters, since he is obviously not at their level. Try to get him to perform as he is meant to be instead of playing him at a position he will never be able to play well in. Maybe get a comp pick in 2017 for him when he does okay with another team that needs a player with his limited abilities.

He's decent depth, just not what we drafted him to be

Put him a DE in a nickle and watch him get the QB and hopefully not try to cover pass catchers ....phewww

Bowles said last night they are not switching to a 4-3 and they play a lot of four man fronts anyway just like Rex did. Of course the issue there is you have 4 stars and they won't all be on the field on a regular basis which really makes you think at some point Wilkerson goes.

On 4-2-5 you play him on the line instead of snacks, on 4-3 you keep him at OLB, and in 3-4 you play him at OLB and have Williams or Richardson play NT on most downs, Harrison play on running downs.

IMO the talk of switching to a 4 man front is ridiculous. The Jets don't have an OLB or DL fast enough to be a legit pass rushing DE. They have the DTs and the strong side DE, but not the speedy pass rusher. The result would be the same as always...getting to the QB a second or two too late.

I know we were screwed the minute the Jets hired another former DC as HC. I hoped Bowles and Mac would be different and that the offense would finally be addressed. If this stupid team doesn't go offense in the 2nd & 3rd rounds, I'm done with this team. I'm sick and tired of the insanity/stupidity.
