No one knows. But the topic is could they trade him. They would only trade him if he wanted extreme money.
This would be the one thing I would be absolutely pissed about. We could trade up for Mariota, trade back, stay at 6 and select Cooper/Fowler/White/etc etc and I would be happy. But if we traded away Wilkerson at the prime of his career, I would be PISSED
I would not be surprised if one of the CBs (probably Skrine) is offered in trade too. The Titans need one and having three starting caliber CBs is a luxury. I have no doubt in my mind that the Jets will try to trade up, it is all a matter of whether Tennessee accepts the offer.
I agree that the ONLY QB I would've done this for would've been Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck. Mariotta has bust written all over him. How many QB's have we see running a non-pro style offense in college flame out? Maybe he will be good, but I'm nowhere near confident enough in him to trade a beast like Mo.
How much is any team going to give up for a player with one year left on his rookie contract and no guarantee that he will stay with them except a franchise tag? Mo could refuse to sign long term with them
The danger I see is that if you move "now" pieces for "next year" pieces, it means our record will likely be lower, and thus any picks we give up next year will be that much more valuable. That, and the fact that Mariota has enough red flags to scare the shit out of anyone. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
its never about not WANTING to sign him...its about being able to sign him. Theres a cap in this league........great players go elsewhere ALL the time.....and its almost always because of the cap
Yeah, I know. I am saying instead of signing one of the big names in free agency, use the money for Mo. Too late now though of course. We will see how it all shakes out.
Very well said. As I have also said I don't get why he would not have been signed already unless there is a difference of opinion about his value. Now of course it is possible if we knew the numbers, we might think the FO might be being too cheap with him. We just don't know. But imo it's somewhat more likely that Wilkerson and his agent are asking for too much and if that's the case the Jets have to consider moving him for value.
I don't understand why you think the Jets would use the second pick on anyone other than Mariota. If Tenn sticks with the second pick, they are not going to take Williams.
Rotoworld Football @Rotoworld_FB 48s48 seconds ago Jets want multiple 1st-rounders for Wilkerson http://dlvr.it/9dGp4Y
Which won't happen. Mo is staying. Mac is telling teams, if you want Mo - you will pay out of the ass for it.
I wouldn't deal Mo this year Next year we will still need a qb and ot tho. Positions which get gobbled up quick where there is talent. It's possible next offseason one of our dlineman could be moved to address one of those positions
I keep wondering if we even have the money left to sign Wilkerson even if we want to without significant backloading of the contract...does anybody know?
That's a starting point. Doesn't mean they don't change their minds if Wilkerson holds out. This is already getting concerning, and it probably started when we tossed money to Harris and all the other FAs
No way of knowing that. We may have made him an offer first and he said no fucking way..my guess is that is what really happened and why nothing has happened since.
