I think we ought to figure out exactly what we're doing with this guy and go with it for now. Do you think that moving him around so much will sort of stunt his growth as a complete football player? He hasn't been able to do much with the trick plays we've designed for him so far. Do you think that we should stick him at one position for now and let him develop some more before we try all these gadget plays every week?
i think the reason they haven't put him at one position is because they really haven't decided what position he's gonna play. I think his position is gonna be "the guy who confuses the shit out of the defense" for now and for a little while until they realize what he's best at.
NO!! We drafted this guy because of his VERSATILILITY! If he just plays WR hes not as much of a threat. AND DID YOU SEE HIM ON SPECIAL TEAMS? If he can play like that on special teams every game it already merits the draft pick. We haven't opened up a lot of the trick plays for him because its still early in the season. You didnt see Randel El throwing passes until the playoffs and end of season. I love how we are using him. LOVE IT!
I agree. Continue using him the way we're using him. Who says a football player can play one positon only? His threat is his versatilty.
yeah, remember the days when there used to be stars on special teams? like they were never a big part of offense or defense but they used to kill on special team, he could bring that back
What I'm saying is that if we were to let him develop into a reciever first, and a damn good one at that, then the gadget plays will come as more of a surprise. Now, other teams are expecting him to do something out of the ordinary so they know to keep all eyes on him.
I hear what you're saying, but it's going to take time for him to develop the skills of an NFL WR. It seems like he lines up at WR more often each week, so it seems the CS is trying to develop him at that position while giving our team the best chance to win. All the trick plays present more opportunity for him to touch the ball and mess with defenses. Did you hear the announcers talk about how much time teams have to spend practicing how to defend him? The fact that he is taking valuable practice time away from teams is one more advantage he gives us. Good. Let them worry about him while Coles is running wide open down the sideline. I think Shotty is doing a hell of a job using him creatively as a weapon and a decoy. People may be reading this thinking "didn't you post he was a reach in the draft yesterday?" ... yeah that was my drunken attempt at humor. I'm a huge Brad Smith fan. My friends that watch football with me on Sundays who aren't even Jets fans are well aware of who he is because I talk about him so much.
Good argument. I think this kid is great, too. I want to see him develop into the most dangerous weapon in the NFL.
I think it would be nice to start using him as a pure receiver. Still do all the other stuff with him, too. Hell, I wouldn't mind a couple plays with him at tailback either.
o definatly...i hope chad catches a TD pass...but seriously, we need to get brad some touches at receiver too
I don't know, but what I DO know is that the coaching staff should NOT take him off special teams. He is in on every play and is a pure BEAST on special teams.
The great Chicago D will be the first to experience a true game breaking Brad Smith trick play. Big U is right on this one.
hes meant to play multiple positions, I understand the worry, cause its more exciting to just let him bloom into an awesome playmaking reciever. but right now theyre sprinkling him in wherever they feel he can move the chains for us. id expect his duties to only increase as the year goes on. you cant throw too much at a rookie real early.
