Though it's early, I feel good about him and the team at this current time.

However, I think Maccagnan deserves the credit and the reason for my optimism.

If rex was still the coach and we had the players we have now, I'd feel just as good, if not better about the upcoming season.

If he goes 8-8 with no playoffs we are at least heading in the right direction.

If we go 6-10 or worse I will hand out the torches and pitchforks myself.

It's the offseason. The FAgency period has already started, the draft isn't quite close enough to hold our attention, and TC and the season seem to be light years away. Frankly, what else do we have to do except waste time? Well, other than live our lives.....

I like most things about Todd Bowles. He has the right traits to be a head coach including pragmatism and leadership.

I think he is more capable than Rex at making this team more discipline and preventing pre-camp injuries, in-game miscues, etc. Obviously however, he's at a disadvantage like Rex was at offense. I do think, however, that he will not neglect the Offense as Rex did. For this reason, if the Jets put together a good team, I think they can win games more easily than with Rex. I'm not necessarily saying Bowles will win the division, but rather, many games the Jets will either be close in or demolish teams wholly. In Rex's regime, even when the Jets dominated the game, it was still close at the end due to turnovers and miscues.

The one fault I've seen in Todd Bowles in his short time here so far has been the acceptance of Geno as his QB. I want a coach who won't rest until they acquire a franchise QB, whether that means trading up for a guy they believe in or trading for him. Bowles has said on many occasions that he's not looking for a franchise QB, but rather a game-manager. Bowles thinks he can win a championship with a game manager QB.

I do not think you can win a championship with a game-manager QB. Even if you can, the chances are significantly slim. (The last team to do it was the Ravens with Trent Dilfer and that required a historically-good defense in order to win). For this reason, I hope the Jets select a QB in the draft (either early or late) that the Jets might only be expecting to be a game manager but turns out to be a franchise QB. In other words, since Bowles isn't going to actively pursue one, I hope one happens to come to them.

Bowles never said he doesn't want a franchise QB. He just said that it's very difficult to get one, so you have to make the best with what you have. I also wouldn't read to far into the Geno stuff, because he is by default number 1 on the depth chart with Fitzpatrick recovering from injury and we haven't had the draft.

I believe Bowles announced Geno as the starter to build Geno's confidence, Bowles knows Fitz is hurt so he cant be the #1 as of now. There will be a competition this year. However why not try to gas Geno up to be great! If Geno some how turns it around it would be a win for Bowles! Then he could easily let our drafted QB sit till the next year, if Geno plays well.

And you'll just continue to embarrass yourself. This team still has a LOT of holes and question marks at key positions like QB, the OL and OLB. The Eagles tried to buy a team a couple of years ago and we know how that turned out. We have a rookie CS working together for the first time. We have new systems the team will have to learn. We have a LOT of new pieces on the team. We have no idea how long it will take the players to learn the new systems, much less thrive in them, we have no idea if the team will develop any kind of chemistry or synergy playing together.

To say that if the team finishes 6-10 you will hand out the torches and pitchforks is just dumb. Yes, we would probably all be disappointed in that record but it would be a 50% improvement on last year's record. If we finished 6-10 because it struggled early, but were competitive in every game, and the team got better as the season progressed. I would accept the improvement and understand. If it finished 6-10 because of injuries to key players, I would understand. If it finished 6-10 because Geno and Fitz couldn't get it done at QB, I would understand. If the new young players added via the draft and FA showed promised and developed, I would be happy with that and it would give me hope for the future. The point is it's absurd to predict or expect this team will make the playoffs. If it does, great, but there are a lot of variables, and there will be a period of adjustment.

Geez, let's get through the draft, OTAs and training camp before we start coming up with impressions, opinions and whatever.
Unlike the last head coach, he's done a good job at managing expectations.
