New York Jets owner Woody Johnson sells Fifth Ave. pad for $77.5M

Billionaire New York Jets owner Woody Johnson has scored a touchdown in the luxury real estate market.

His apartment, a stunning five-bedroom duplex at 834 Fifth Ave., is now officially the most expensive co-op ever sold in New York City, having been purchased by Ukrainian billionaire Leonard Blavatnik for a jaw-dropping $77.5 million.

The sale beats out the previous record set earlier this year by a deal for hedge funder Israel Englander’s apartment at 740 Park Ave.

The final closing price was first spotted in city records by real estate websiteCityRealty.

Johnson put the pad on the market last year for $75 million. He bought it only a year prior and reportedly never actually lived there, instead opting to stay in another of his homes at One Central Park West.

Meanwhile, the record for a condo sale is still the $100.47 million sale of a penthouse at 157 W. 57th St

Maybe he's planning to sell the team or move it to L.A. where he really lives.

Of course I would love to see him sell the team and if he makes a huge profit fine with me. Just don't sell it to the Dolans.

That's the one thing I can give Woody credit for. When he bought the Jets, the 2nd place bidder was James Dolan. Thank god Woody bought the team.

I would love Mark Cuban to buy the Jets.

    That smirk alone is priceless...

Its amazing if Woody wasn't born into millions he would likely be the manager of a chain of "Pube Haircutting" barber shops. "Woodys Ball Shaving Place" would be the likely name $2.50 a cut

5 bedroom co-op, 77.5 million? Is it near Derek Jeter's Taco Hole?

That area is boring as hell. I honestly don't get paying so much for little space. I know one that lives there. I met her in the summer in math class. She works on wall street and only goes to park ave to crash.

There was a report about 3wks ago that said Brooklyn is the new "city". That many are moving back to Brooklyn and ignoring places like Manhattan. If true I wonder how low the prices in Manhattan will get in the coming years.

Yes and she really liked me despite doing that (I think I told you this). We fell apart around November. Ran into her 2wks ago looking rather older and stressed. Right off the bat we clicked but I blew it somewhere (or was it her? :( )
