i had been wondering about this for a while. thats a lot better than 20 mil guaranteed. that would have meant guaranteeing his deal through 3 years, two seems more realistic.

Okay, now the deal is officially fucking amazing.

Nobody should complain about this deal now.

Why would his play drop off all of a sudden?

Five or six years out I could see it but in two short years not so much.

No one should have complained about the deal to begin with.

We are getting a pro bowl CB at half the price of our #1 CB.

So 2 deals in which we thought players got overpaid in reality didn't.

Excellent job by the FO - shocked they haven't given out any bad contracts considering none of these guys are really cap gurus and are new to their positions.

yeah, i was starting to think the mindset of constantly overpaying by a few mill was the new lay of the land. maybe it still is, but they've certainly got more contract structure savvy than previously revealed.

we have several outs if cap space becomes an issue in the future, which it shouldn't.

What this also tells you is that the ONLY way they are going to get a QB which everybody knows they need is to draft one.

This also means if one of our younger DBs come back healthy and step it up this season then Cro's $'s can go towards Mo's $'s. All the more reason to root for Milliner/Marcus/McDougle stepping up

How Jets drew up a risk-free Cromartie contract

The official numbers are in on the Antonio Cromartie contract, and they are not quite what they were made out to be.

This is not surprising because the guaranteed portion of his contract was not reported initially, indicating it would not sound quite as good as the total.

The contract is for four years and $32 million, but only $7 million is guaranteed, and all of that comes in 2015. The Jets could move on after one season without salary-cap ramifications.

Cromartie, who turns 31 next month, has a base salary of $5 million and a $2 million roster bonus this season. The base salary is guaranteed, and he is going to make the roster bonus, so that essentially is money in his pocket, too.

After that? The Jets could cut him at any point. He received no signing bonus, which usually would be prorated over the life of the deal.

Cromartie, who spent last season with the Cardinals, is scheduled to make $8 million in 2016 and 2017 and his base salary is $9 million in 2018. He also has incentives that can escalate the value of the contract.

All in all, this looks like a great deal for Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan, who upgraded the cornerback position without committing long-term bucks.

When I read the title of the article, I thought there was going to be a story on how Mac got Cromartie to sign the contract (as opposed to just reciting contract details). That'd require some reporting, and probably disclosure of whatever dark magic/deals-with-the-devil used to get that deal done. That contract, so ridiculously good. It's likely porn to other sports franchise execs.

I agree. Assuming he stays healthy, and last year he did not seem affected by any lingering hip problems, he can be productive for a few years.
