So playing great during a run and not elite means what? They played great hence without it they wouldn't have gotten there. Rivers w a top d can do exactly what these guys did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the D that held our O to 17 pts wasn't good enough? the D that held down the great 2007 Pats O wasn't good enough? the D that picked off Brady 3 times in SD when they were 14-2 wasn't good enough?
No they were not. Using these random examples one including holding a jets offense to 17 points isn't a strong case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the next week our O scored 17 points and we lost 30-17. why couldn't Rivers lead his O to more than 17 pts?
Using two different sets of games w different opponents players and gameplans is an incredibly weak argument Despite your attempt to say defense doesn't win championships in an attempt to prove a point about Philip rivers... Rivers on this team w our wide receivers matched up with our defense would put the jets in the upper crust of the afc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rivers would be one of the best QB's we've ever had (if we were lucky enough to acquire him), it's not really debatable. He's one of the top QB's in the league. Rivers with a defense, that on paper, looks as good as this one could do some serious damage. With the players we've added (Revis, Cromartie, Marshall) we're trying to win now, within a 3 year period at least. It makes sense to go after a proven QB if you can acquire one. Once again, if i'm the Jets, i'm taking Mariota if I really believe in him. Otherwise i'd love to explore an option like Rivers.
ok so keep using your excuses. that should help. he has started 9 playoff games, he has led his O's to more than 21 pts in two of them and in one game he had only 16 attempts where they didn't let him throw in order to not blow the game while in the other he threw 2 garbage time TDs to get them to 24 pts. he's been surrounded w/ SB talent since he took over.
Rivers has played w/ more talented teams his entire career in a weak division. why would he do here what he couldn't do in SD?
What excuses ? You're just arguing a point while making shaky statements simply to try and prove your point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
what is shaky about saying his D allowed 17 pts to us one week then the next week Indy did as well except Indy's O scored 30 while SD's O scored 14? and 7 of the pts we scored were set up by a boneheaded Rivers INT deep in SD territory. SD"s D played far better than Indy's D yet Indy cruised to a win and SD lost- how come?
Rivers had a top 10 defense twice in his entire career. SD's defense has been garbage for his whole career. I'd take a chance on him. If the Jets want to win now or at least in this window while they still have Revis and Marshall, I'd certainly take the risk.
To restate Comparing two weeks to two different opponents in the playoffs no less is baseless Different teams Different gameplans Different players The comparison isn't remotely valid Look nowhere am I saying Philip rivers is the best qb in the NFL. What I am saying however is that to punch holes in clearly strong defensive units and to state rivers had an equal defense in your argument while somehow saying defense doesn't win championshipships simply to prove your point doesn't make sense. I am simply stating rivers on a team built such as the jets puts rivers in a much better position to succeed then he was put in San Diego given what has been proven to win championships recently and over decades. Rivers is better than Pennington. Look this probably isn't going to happen. But if Mac was aggressive it could. But it also depends on how bad SD wants Mariota and if he falls to 6.
Those teams are talented because of top tier QB play that he provides them with. He's never won a SB, so what? Your talking about the guy like he's Kyle Orton and not Phillip Rivers. He's been to the playoffs on numerous occasions and has had just as many good games, as bad ones. Which really isn't even a good argument anyway, you judge a player on the overall body of work, not a small sample size. Any GM who judges a player on 9 games instead of a 144, is not a GM I want.
it's very valid. SD D played better than Indy D against us but opposing QB was better in Indy. Rivers handed us the game. Rivers doesn't need championships but he should at least have some playoff success w/ all that talent.
