His offenses in Buffalo were unable to score many points against divisional opponents. The Bills got killed like 50-3 vs the Patriots, 20-10 vs the Dolphins, and like 40-14 against the Jets. As a head coach of the bills, he struggled getting points scored against divisional opponents specifically Rex Ryan's defenses. Now we won't get blown out, but to win these divisional games we have to score more. And Fitzpatrick was the QB then.

Yeah, any way you spin it Rex's defences usually had their way with Gailey's offenses.

I expect their Defense to be really good.

I get it. Chan gailey is here and so is Ryan Fitzpatrick.

But the rosters are very different on offense:

CJ Spiller does not equal Chris Ivory
Stevie Johnson does not equal Brandon Marshall
David Nelson does not equal Erick decker
and the O Lines were very different

plus we don't even know that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter for sure.

Bottom line, the players are very different. I can't say it will turn out any better, but it's false logic to assume it will be the exact same way.

With our revamped defense, Rex isn't gonna be able to score a lot of points against us either. Not that he did when he was HC in NY, but our defense will be way way better now.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

Our talent was terrible when Gailey was here, and it wasn't his fault. We were in full rebuilding mode. Gailey absolutely made the most of what he had. I don't know how he got what he did out of those low round players. But Jesus, you can't hold it against him that he didn't completely turn water into wine.

There is nothing that indicates that our D this year will come close to how good our D was in 09 and 10.

There are lots of things that indicate that. In fact, I think our D will be better than 2010.

Our DLine is better than it was then, and it looks like our secondary will be better too. Only question mark is the OLB position, but we didn't really have an edge rusher in 2009 or 2010 either.

Remember, in 2009 this was our DLine:

I'd take Wilkerson, Richardson, Harrison, Coples, Kenrick Ellis and Co. over those guys any day of the week.

Its also highly likely RR's offense is bottom 20 in scoring so we should still be in these games.

I expect them to split like they do most of the time.

Oops, you're right. And of course.

I was looking at the "week 1 roster" from this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_New_York_Jets_season

It seems like Ellis (and Pace) were both suspended during the first week. I can't seem to remember why.

EDIT: I also forgot Pouha. I'd still take our current DLine, though.

"Ryan repeatedly said he was excited at the progress made by the former Ohio State star [Gholston] during minicamp and offseason workouts."

What the fuck was going on through Rex's mind when he made that statement

Better than saying "Yep, as the incoming head coach I've determined that Gholston is a complete bust. I have no idea what Tanny, my GM, was thinking when he drafted him. I bet he'll get no sacks for the rest of his career. Even me, the best defensive mind in the game, won't be able to put him into a position to succeed because he's a bust. Now let's get a goddamn snack!"
