It doesn't have to be ED. Just grab a random guy (or Girl) give them a helmet and point the camera at them. Have a designated seat to lead the cheers from. If it's a guy from the Bronx, we may have to help with the spelling.
And lets say he does come back now. At least half of our fanbase, and all NFL fans of other teams would be calling him a bandwagon fan and abuse him even more
Very true. I sat 3 rows behind him. He got abused and people would interrupt him during the game to take pictures. When he would say "guys can we do this at a commercial break" he would get a hard time....who wants to deal with that crap??? There were lines of people taking pictures with him at halftime, and he stood for every photo, and was especially great with kids...... I don't know the guy but he's good for the team and the atmosphere. Like it or not he's part of our identity. I deal with people from the UK and Australia and when I tell them I'm a Jets fan they say "Isn't that the team with the fireman mascot".....
as an adult you gotta be a complete lunatic to want to take a picture with another fan that you dont know, especially while game action is going on. i can understand a kid wanting one tho. i mean as much as it went to his head, the team and even the league to an extent definitely helped pump him up into more than just a big fan.
OH 100% would do the same. my father would have done the same too. some parents let their kids do anything tho and just say sure
On one hand, it sucks to have people bother you constantly when you're trying to enjoy something. But on the other hand, that's what happens when you volunteer to be the team celebrity (and get your tickets for free and get showcased on all the team's media streams) ... people start treating you like the mascot (because that's what you are).
he did not get his tickets for free. thats a lie. him and his brother pay for their seats. i know its been reported before but its not true. they did offer him free tickets last year under the condition he would do the whole fireman ed schtick. he passed.
There was an interview with Benigno and Roberts a few years back (pretty sure it was Rex's first year) ... where he flat out said the team gave him his tickets. It was the same interview where he admitted he used to be a Dolphins fan. Benigno more or less called him a fraud to his face.
find it bc from what his brother told me thats false. they pay. the dolphin fan thing is 100% true tho. when he was young he was a fins fan. that part always irked me a bit too.
Bring Fireman Ed back! Games are not the same without him leading the chant. The chant has been horrible since he's been gone. Why anyone would have anything against Ed or taunt him at games is beyond me. Complete losers in my book. Only thing I can think of is acting like drunk a** h**** or jealousy of all the attention he has received. No one does the chant or gets the crowd going like Fireman Ed. Let's get him back in the stands.
Ed will not make a difference, winning will. If the Jets win,the crowd will be pumped, if they lose, the fans will still be pissed, Ed won't change a thing
